Apparently, there is a new item called an alcohol machine manufactured in England that is causing some hub-bub in the US. The gist:

Twenty minutes for one measly shot seems like quite a bother.

 

Never underestimate the stupidity of humanity...

Still, supply and demand 'eh? If someone wants it and can pay money for it, someone is bound to supply it.

 

Yeah...but isn't it much easier to glug a couple of shots anyway?

 

It's just alcohol. Nothing can ever replace beer anyway.

 

Sen. Carl Kruger has probably some pretty interesting ideas of how "dangerous" that machine might be, but I think it is just a gimmick to beef up the alcohol markets.

I still don't - and probably never will - get the fascination with getting drunk 'quicker', which I guess this does. I'd much prefer to be able to taste the alcohol I'm drinking and savour the flavour. And if you want to drink without suffering a hangover, find something that doesn't give you a hangover, or else drink less. If you want to drink without getting drunk, again drink less or don't drink alcohol.

 

@ Molluskan....Though i enjoy beer i can think of about a twenty things that can replace it.

@Aldazar.....The flavor of alcohol? Now i can see enjoying the flavors of beers, wines, and bourbons,etc., but they have a distinct flavor due to the process of which they're made. The actual flavor of pure alcohol (Everclear, other grains) is bloody horrible and i dont see how anybody could enjoy or "savor" the flavor of it!!

 

Actually, ethyl alcohol, the alcohol found in alcoholic beverages is scentless and tasteless. This has been used as a defense in many DUI cases. (I have a friend who is a police officer and he tells me stuff like this all the time.) In fact, you cannot say as an officer in court, that you gave someone a road-side sobriety test because they smelled of alcohol. The defense attorney will quickly produce a bottle of ethyl alcohol, and ask the jurors to smell it, because it has no smell. If you want to say anything along those lines, you have to say the defendant "smelled of an alcoholic beverage", which certainly does have a scent.

 

Well, I guess I should have been more clear in what I meant, I was actually referring to the taste of alcoholic beverages, as I'm aware alcohol itself in it's pure form has no taste or aroma - we made a heap in high school science as most high school kids probably do.

Anyway, I still don't see the point of this machine when I and most people I know drink alcoholic beverages for the taste rather than the effect.

I thought drunkenness WAS the effect!

 

Can we combine this with Airconditioners? Maybe then I would be interested...

 

Good point Aldazar. What is the effect of alcohol if it isn't drunkenness? Don't say it makes people more sociable because that is just a lesser form of drunkenness often called 'tipsy'.

 

Ethanol has a very characteristic odor and a burning taste.
