A New Twist on Polls

    [​IMG] In the past, we've been using an external provider for our bi-weekly site polls, but in the recent weeks the spammers have overrun their commenting system. As the provider has ridiculously offered no protection against comment spam, there was effectively no way to ward off spam short of checking the comments regularly and deleting it.

    Well, that got old really fast. So with a lot of help from our resident code wiz catbert and RPGWatch's Myrthos, who provided the code that we used as the foundation of our new system, we now have a new polling system in place.

    The new system is integrated with the message boards, which means that the voting takes place in the new Bi-weekly Polls & Comments forum. The voting is open to everyone, even unregistered users. However, logged in users can also comment on the poll directly, in the poll's own thread.

    The current results of the featured poll now display on all the site pages of Sorcerer's Place, in the same location where you found the old poll in the past.

    I still have to decide how exactly we're going to handle poll cycling, i.e. whether the polls will remain open for voting indefinitely, even after their time in the spotlight is up, or whether they should be closed for voting and/or comments after their two weeks are up.
