[IMG] I plan to play with a party of 4,all using ranged weapons.

My protagonist is a ranger using short/long bows
    Jan using crossbows
    Edwin using slings
    Should i use viconia?
If i do she will be using a sling too..

Will this part work? or will i have a hard time

It will probably work, but you'll have a very hard time... you should have melee weapons at the ready in case, or rather when the enemy gets closer to you. And you'll probably have problems with space too...

But hey, try it!! Always try new things you haven't done yet, those are the fun parts of BG. :thumb:

Oh and yes, use Viccy... you'll need her cleric skills.

You could well struggle - not enough melee muscle. However, keep Viccy up-front with good armour and a girdle and she can help protect Jan and Edwin. Give her a sling and a good melee weapon (flail, mace or hammer) and she'll be okay.

If you want more melee then swap Viccy for Anomen, but Viccy is by far the best Cleric in the game.

Just use lots of buffing spells to keep you protected.

The advantage of having 4 people is that you will advance levels quicker so you can summon lots of better creatures to help you, much sooner.

Why a Ranger with these NPCs? You're good, with invariably evil NPCs. Wouldn't you be better off with a standard fighter, fighter/thief or fighter/mage? Jan could easily do all the stealth work for you, plus he can search for traps at the same time.

    Take rather:

    - Archer (Protagonist, short bows)
    - Minsc (Longbows + 2-handed swords)
    - Valygar (Longbows + Katanas/spears)
    - Jaheira (Slings + Healing/Summons)

    Should be much easier.

If you're a ranger, you must be good...so why Edwin and Viccy?
I'd say drop Jan for Korgan, but that would be insane. So get the Shapeshifter Rebalancing mod and pick up Cernd instead of Viconia (although then you would have to go by without Raise Dead), or take Jaheira (she has Harper's Call). From what I hear, Jaheira should be a better fighter than most spellcasters.

    What about:

    PC
    Mazzy (her bow)
    Minsc (longbow)
    Jaheira (slings)

Besides just using ranged, I assume Edwin is going to deliver his spells as well? You have a mage, and backup and a good cleric so you are set party wise. as for ranged all of the time, it could work. Lots of good ranged weapons, but you may want to give Edwin or Viconia dart/throwing daggers instead of a sling so one doesn't get a crappy sling out of the deal. give them the best weapon of each type to make it easier *cough* powergame *cough*. Good luck to you

[IMG] You need to give us more information! Is there a special reason for picking those characters you listed?

Just ranged is kinda daring, but it could work. I would choose an archer as my primary char. It is a good idea to disperse the type of ranged weapons on all chars, then you can use the best weapons around for each class.
You might like to try out darts too which are formidable when used by a capable char.

My fav 4-char party consisted of a LG paladin, a LG cleric, a NG archer and a halfling CG wildmage-thief. I have also started it with a kensai instead of the pally, but it was a little too similar to be fun ... ;)
