I was watching How It's Made, this show where they do a quick run through of how things get made. Well, they were going through the making of honey. :yum: They explained (sort of) what honey is - bees suck the nectar from the flower and hide it in their honey pouch, returning to the hive to store it in a little honey house.

So (sorry for grossing you out) essentially, honey is bee vomit, right? What does that make bee wax? Where does the wax come from?

Not far from the truth, in that bees wax is a product of digestion and secretion. The bees have a gland that secretes the wax...

There are many things we eat that how/what from are they made we, for our own peace of mind, shouldn't know. And don't ask what sausages are made from.

Depends on what kind on sausage - Longanesa sausage used to be one of my very favorites until I found out that the main ingredient is soft round boy-piggy parts. Whoever came up with that recipe had a lot of balls! hehe

As far as eating honey...So What? Have you ever considered the parts of all that lovely seafood we eat? Oysters, clams, and lobsters all all basically insects of the sea. You ceartainly don't gut an oyster before you eat it. Sure you take the head, veins, and legs out of a shrimp before you pop it in your mouth but what about its little heart, stomach, and tiny shrimp intestines? Just eat it and don't think about it.

Really, if we knew 1/2 of what we were eating in a McD's hamburger we wouldn't be eating it.

Well, that "vein" you remove from a shrimp is its digestive tract...

    Women don't have balls.

I wouldn't call it poo, because poo animal refuse and wax is used even in the bee community. So it is what BTA said: secrete. Honey could be called the same, depending of your point of view.

Thank you, BTA. I'll PM you for anymore of my weird, insectoid queries. :alien:

I know what sausages are made of and I still eat them. I don't eat seafood, so :p . It's not going to stop me from eating honey or wax (don't ask), no matter if it's bee poo or not. I eat food with plenty of rat hairs and insect legs in it, so bee poo doesn't bother me much.

@ Wirhe - :D :D The quote you quoted was a little word play there. Even if it was a woman who came up with the recipe for longanesa she still would have needed a lot of balls to make that recipe :D

@ Blackthorn - I stand corrected. Thankyou for the info Oh Wise One.

I think the worst thing in the world to eat is Jello. Who would've thought that it was just boiled cow hides.

Come on, there's nothing wrong with honey. Sheesh, if you're going to be that squeamish, you're not going to eat or drink ANYTHING.

If it tastes good, I don't give a crap where it came from to be honest. That's my philosophy.

Barmy as usual puts across the British view. Stop being squeamish and eat it! Fry it first!
