Torment is to Baldur's Gate like weed is to cigars.

Illegal thought, can such a thing even exist? :p

I don't understand what you're saying here, since as I don't know what value you place on those items, you could really be saying many possible things. For my own value system, I greatly enjoy an occasional high quality cigar, but I will have nothing to do with smoking pot. So for me, your analogy doesn't work.

I would say that Baldur's Gate is a fine wine. Torment is also a fine wine. I enjoy fine wine, by the way.

If we're going for analogies, here's mine: BG is indeed like a fine wine. You enjoy the first sip, then get used to it by the end of the first glass, and by the time you've finished the bottle you're very satisfied with that you had.

PST is like a Lagavulin 21-year old single malt. The first sip makes you go "wow, this is so different". By the end of your first glass you think this is so good you want to drink it slower so that the bottle lasts longer. Then once you've had your fill you store the bottle away and every once in a while you take it out again and have some more, thoroughly enjoying it but aware that you will never get the initial sense of uniqueness that you got with your first glass.

Feel free to tell me I've taken this waaaaaaaay too far :D

I like it! Too far? Uh, I'm not sure I would say that... (maybe just a tad). On the other hand, I clearly didn't my analogy far enough, after reading yours. I just wanted to get the illegal substance out of the mix, so I quickly came up with the highly creative idea of wine, and yet more wine.

But I do agree, PST definitely ends up having a greater novelty factor than BG. That PST bottle gets pulled out far less often, but the "taste" is not like anything else out there (and yes, you can never really replicate the experience of the first time you tried it).
