Ability Points on level up

Discussion in 'BG2: Shadows of Amn (Classic)' started by timschutts, Nov 14, 2000.

[IMG] My main dude is a Paladin. I decided when I created him that he was going to be a two-handed sword guru. I gave him 2 ability points for two-handed swords, and two points for two-handed weapon style at creation. I now have Carsomyr, so I'm happy - BUT, whenever I level up, I'm not allowed to increase either of these specialties. I thought that since a Paladin was a fighter-type character, there wouldn't be a restriction on this? Any thoughts?

[IMG] Warriors (fighters, rangers, paladins, barbarians) get one weapon proficiency point every third level. So, in this game this means at level 9, 12 and 15.

Furthermore, only fighters (and some kits) get more than two points in a weapon proficiency.

Yep, I'm getting my extra point every third level - I just hit level 12. But the ability point awarded at these levels is not being allowed to be used on the two-handed sword or weapon style spots. I'm only two up on each. I notice Korgan has 5 ability points for the Axe. Why can't I master the two-handed sword? I'm a Paladin!!

Paladins and Rangers are not allowed to put more than two proficiency points on any given proficiency except rangers can put three on two weapon style.

Thanks. Now I can delete that game I saved right before I went to Level 12.

Paladins and Rangers are a Fighter class, but not a fighter kit. Fighter kits (IE Kensai, wizard slayer, berserker) Can have 5 profs. in a weapon, Paladins and Rangers can only have 2.

Paladins and rangers are warrior class, not fighter.

In addition, Archers (Ranger kit), can put 5 slots in any ranged weapon. Swashbucklers and Blades can put 3 in two weapon style.
