Hi! I'm curious after i saw some commercial about some "Nokian Tires" (sp?) from Finland so I'm interested: What does Nokia mean? Since they put it on multiple products.

    Thanks!

Nokia is a small town in South-Central Finland, near Tampere. That's where the company was originally founded, that's where the name comes from.

BTW, their involvement in high-tech stuff is actually fairly recent; as recently as 10 years ago, if someone said he bought a Nokian (or more likely, Nokians) the default assumption would have been that he bought either car tires or rubber boots. And the then-famous Nokia Youth Councelor was not an affordable mobile phone you'd give to your kid to keep in touch, but a nightstick... :D

Are there Nokia electronics and that other side of Nokia (makes tires and such).
But the primary meaning for Nokia is that city/town near here.

And no, Nokia is not japanese.
