Last time I played I got really far but didn't like the character. Now, second time round, I've escaped from asylum and can't find the Shadow thief contact. Where is she?

If you are referring to the 'Shadow Master' he is 'under' the Shadow Thief Guild. But you need a key from Galean (sp? -the thief in the Slums who you pay 15K Gold to).

There is a secret door that the key opens on the main floor of the Shadow Thief Guild. It leads down to an 'Enormous underground complex'. He's down there, ask around the NPC's will point you in all kinds of directions. Eventually you'll find him.

No not him, the woman who comes with you on the boat to the Island. Do you have to speak to her again afterwards?

Ahh ha! The Female Shadow Thief that departs the boat with your party in Pirate paradise... We'll I didn't have to speak with her again after meeting up with her BEFORE heading to the Assylum. However I have read (somewhere in this Forum) that when leaving the Assylum you can go two seperate routes. I've finished one BG2 game, the route I took led me directly to the Underdark.

The other I believe is where you can actually get side quests by following the Pirate Ship Captain or someone else who gives the quests. I didn't do this as mentioned I went straight to the Underdark and thus did not meet up with the Female Shadow Thief again or anyone that gave any side quest. I do recall meeting up with someone in the Assylum upon exiting but he didn't live long enough to interact with my party to any significant degree. I somehow didn't like something he said or did. But he did have part of some Blade on his carcass(which I never used).

(Another corpse in my wake, nothing odd about that. Lets go...)

The Female Shadow Thief is not necessary to either path. While battling the vampires on the docks, I stupidly cast that cleirc rain spell that hurts all evil characters. I never considered the thief. She attacked me, and I killed her, but I still completed the game without the thief.
