[IMG] He follows Helm and should therefore act neutral but lawful; as Helm is Lawful Neutral. Why is he lawful good? They should let paladins be lawful good, lawful neutral or lawful evil.

Because the ad&d&d rules say paladins can only be lawful good. And you don't have to have exactly the same alignment as your deity.

Paladins are supposed to embody all that is good and lawful. If they were not lawful good, you'd be changing quite a bit about the class. There ought to be kits or some such for variations of paladins, evil and neutral paladins.

Helm is a neutral God... but I suppose neutral good then :) In FR, many paladins follow Helm, but still they are paladins and so indeed acting as Lawfull GOod, like all Paladins should.

[IMG] It is because of the 'one-step rule' that applies to Paladins and Clerics in D&D. This means that you can have an alignment one step to the side of your patron deity, ie. in the case of Helm: Helm is Lawful Neutral, so you can go one step to either side, this means that you can be a cleric of Helm if you are Lawful Neutral (of course), Lawful Good (one step to the good side), Lawful Evil (Vice Versa) or True Neutral. Therefor a Paladin can have Helm as his patron because he just moved one step towards goodness.

Whew, that was quite a ramble...
