Righty then, of all the alien series; Alien; Aliens; Alien 3; Alien Resurrection and then state why ...

My favourite one is Aliens because it contains in my terms the most interesting perspective of combating the aliens with realism. Its also got kickass characters like Hicks and Hudson and it to me is the most interesting of the series...

    Now its your turn ...

I would have to agree - Aliens I think is the best of the bunch. James Cameron's direction suited the film down to the ground, the aliens really did appear to be dangerous in their hive. I thought the original built suspense more, but it was a bit of a letdown when the alien was fully visible. Hey, it was 1979 after all. Ridley Scott did a good job (as usual) though, so that would be second. Alien 3 next, it seemed a bit bizarre, but only because I wasn't prepared for the total oddity that was Alien: Resurrection. Ripley cloned afer 200 years? Seems a bit desperate, you'd have thought there wouldn't be much genetic material left after a swim in molten lead. Not to mention that it probably wasn't uppermost in most people's minds at that point.
Still, I must admit I'm a bit of a fan of the whole series - but that's my order of preference above.

[IMG] IIRC Ripley was cloned from the blood sample that Clemens took from her at Fury-161

To the original one - Aliens is my favorite, I would actually say, my favorite sci-fi movie ever. Made as thrilling as a movie can get, the aura of despair, doom flows around the party all the time and monsters! Owerwhelming beasts! Fight to the last, fight fear, short controlled bursts! Aaaah!

I vote Alien as the best, a truly spooky movie.

Aliens was just "Rambo in Space"... all that bullshit macho crap. Yawn.

[IMG] Alien was definitely the scariest!

Aliens was a better action flick! The marines were the coolest part of the movie!

    I LOVE 'EM ALL!

Just because they brought the best from different genres in SF.

But if you ask me which "feeling" I liked most, I'd take claustrophobic crawling around in Alien 3.

Comparing the first two is difficult since they are so different. That said, I enjoyed the first one as a horror movie and the second one as an action movie.
Alien had the greater impact on me.

Alien. The others don't compare for quality of suspense and I suppose originality.

[IMG] I'm gonna be the first and maybe even the last who will say that his personal favourite is Aliens. I think the movie has a good story and a great feel to it. The characters are also great, dialogues are good and funny ("Vasquez, have you ever been mistaken for a man?"), I just love the whole movie.

My least favourite would be Alien 3, because I didn't like the story much, but I gotta admit that the movie has some atmosphere and some great chasing-in-the-hallways scenes...

I still don't know what to think about Alien: Ressurection, though...Funny, it has been 3 years and I still can't place a firm opinion about it...Damn...

Is it true that in the book Aliens Resurrection, Ripley can communicate with her breathen (the aliens) via mind reading such as telepathy? And also, how much are the books on the complete series as in Aliens - Alien Resurrection and not those other add ons?

    Elendil,
At least 2 others said they liked Aliens the best, so you're opinion is not really off base.

[IMG] Damn, I was to lazy to read all of the posts before I decided to post myself...
Guess I was too sleepy :coffee:
Thanks Jack Funk for showing me that I'm not the only one who praises Aliens as the best one...
Sniper, Masher and Skedaddle: kudos to you...

I hated Ressurection, i'll tell you that, just a generic action flick.

Aliens is the best in my opinion, its brilliantly made and has its moments of horror (like the first one) I enjoyed the first one, but it seemed to drag on and get repetitive as it got father into the film.

Alien 3 was quite enjoyable as a film alone, but when you compare it to its predecessors, its nothing that great.

If it's a comfort, Elendil, I didn't read many of the posts above either. Sleepy. I can say that I liked Aliens 3 best, because that's what I've watched. I didn't like it that much, so I didn't watch the other ones. "Generic Action Flick With A Sad End" is the best description; hope the others aren't like it, but can't be bothered to find out.

[IMG] Tiamat, don't be so stupid and miss out 2 brilliant movies. You watched the 3rd part, in my opinion the worst. The first 2 are cult movies of science fiction.
Imagine you watched Jaws 3 and came to a perfectly sane conclusion that the movie is utter crap. But then you thought: well, if this one is so bad, then the first 2 must be horrible too.
That would be some mistake because the first Jaws is excellent, the sequels are bad.
You can never judge a movie until you see it, so go rent the first two...That's an order...:borg:

I haven't watched Jaws 3. Or 2. Or 1. Must've been a tad before my time, I guess. There's another significant reason why I haven't watched the original Aliens: I'm generally not a big fan of horror movies. The only horror movie I ever liked was "Sleepy Hollow", and even that couldn't quite properly be described as a horror film....

I just thought of a new horrormovie "Slappy Hollow"

Alien 1 and Jaws 1. Both gave me the biggest thrill.
