Am I the only one who doesn't like Minsc?

Sorry I didn't know how long the topic can be so.. unable to fit this whole line:
Am I the only one around who doesn't like Minsc?

I find him annoying and no way the best fighter there is. Keldorn and Korgan are much better imo. Korgan is killmachine with +++++ with axes. Keldorn is very smart man who doesnt bable nonsense all the time. And third option I'd say own character. I usually go with character who is able to fight. Minsc is imo soooo overrated that it's staring to get annoying. I mean.. guy is one big cliche.. strong man with no brain and has a small pet that is his companion. I've heard that billion times before.. but please don't send no assassins at me.. just my opinions maybe to start good old flame here.. umh.. conversation I mean.

 

A guy who use to be an moderator here hated him to death. But if you ask me it all depends on party, in my opinion minsc can go with out dex gauntlets if you have korgon or keldorn (15 dex for korgon and 9 for Keldorn)
so it just depends wether he fits into my plan..

 

Depend on where you use him for. With Two-Handed Sword I don't say Minsc is very good but give him the flail of the ages and another good weapon (Skullcrusher, Celestrail Fury (when you specialize him for Katana) and later Crom Faeyr and then he really is a tank, mind my words.

 

I think Minsc is a great tank with a two handed sword, i'm now specialising him to use a halbert(the wave)

But if I had to choose between Keldorn and Minsc i'd choose Keldorn, because Keldorn kicks ass with that girdle(strength 19) and the gauntlets of dexterity

 

I have never used Minsc more than occasionally in any of my games. He is funny and I like the hamster part, but after a while I find myself wanting someone else in the party.

In BG/TotSC Fighters were way better than Rangers, but that changed with the emasculated BG2 weapon proficiencies. IMO Specialization (two stars) is all you ever need and rangers as well as paladins get that.

 

Minsc was the most annoying npc in BG1 but I didn't actually hate him. Well when I think of it I don't hate any of them. (Ok, perhaps Imoen, she whines so much and has those annoying dialogues in Irenicus's dungeon. Sure, they where cool the first and perhaps even the second time but after the twentieth time I was pretty fed up with them.)

 

So Pretend, Minsc should be strong, fast, invincible and also good looking, joke maker, wise and intelligent probably?

Cliche or not, it's not real to get all statistics high. Yet, I don't know for a party that couldn't use Minsc. And that's why I like him.
And who said he's poor fighter (ranger)? He's probably only NPC that I would choose to be if forced to play solo with one of NPC party member types.
Someone said here to specialize him in war hammers: pal, what's Viconia or Anomen for?

But I don't want to say that you must like him. If you're not tolerant to people without much brains and don't want them nearby, so be it.

I find it very hard to drop Minsc. I currently have Korgan, Minsc and Keldorn but I would sooner drop any of them before I drop Minsc. He leads the frontline, he is the only indispensible character, you get him at the start and he is intended to be stay for the rest of the game.

 

if i pick minsc up in the benniging he ends up staying to the end... with boo of course... has anyone tried removing boo with shadow keeper?

 

I tried it in BG1 with hex editor. And succeded.

But why have I done so? Beats me.

Ok have to say Minsc is the only character to make me laugh, the rest whine and brag.

Give him the talking sword and it even gets better...

Minsc is cool, hamster or not. He´s funny, good and stunningly pathetical. His dex is all right, though it could be better.
And I think Lilarcor is the perfect companion for him.

I can´t let him go, what would happen o him, alone in the hostile world of faerun? He needs all the guidance and protection I and my party can provide. Except that he´s almost as much family as Imoen.

Minsc was the one with the most kills and most experience kills in my party. Granted I was only a dc Berserker/Cleric, but he managed to beat out Keldorn easily (both wielding 2HS). This was with Keldorn having both str 19 girdle and dex gauntlets.

I may try a dual wielding Minsc next time tho. I grant that with 2HS or dual wield Minsc's AC is pretty low, but strangely it has never been critical.

Anyway, I just enjoy his attitude. HAMSTERS AND RANGERS EVERYWHERE, REJOICE!!!!

 

You can say Keldorn is much better, but he is only when he has a girdle of giant strength and the gauntlets of dex. Without those, he's pretty much useless...
I don't say Keldorn is weak, cause with those stuff, he's the best fighter there is in the game, but I'm just saying, he's with those gear only a little more better than Minsc.
I just started an evil party and I have to say, although Minsc has always been my favorite with his famous talk (Evil meet my sword, SWORD...MEET....EEEVVIIIILLLL!!!!at the end of the game, hehe!) he now boring me to death, with his "this is not the way to go!" stuff. He can kick serious butt though...

 

I had a hard time giving up Minsc in my evil party, and I kept him for a while, since he's pretty loyal and slow-witted, and I figured my character would have fun manipulating him. But then there was a tough fight and he and another character died, and I would have had to either pay money to raise him, and my character decided that Minsc was holding him back, and let him have his final rest.

I might even take someone I hate if it is needed. I can most likely give a reason for hating them too.
