[IMG] Ok, I'm about to be 34, few days back, my mother told me: "still spending money/time in that crap?"
Crap= pc games; new hardware so I can play many of the new pc games; things related...
I remember when my first game encounter, I was 13 and I was living in a small town; walking to school one day I heard this strange noises, walk in to a local and I saw the beautiest thing in the world: Moon Patrol, Dig Dug; Popeye; Phoenix; Mr Do; Galaxian... I never forget that day, since then, I spend almost every day some time playing some kind of game, either pc game, console game or those little machines connected to a tv (called here Family); of course, since I spend more time doing that than studying, my mother never liked those things that stole my time/money. Now, everytime I go to see my family (they live 400 km from where I live) I take with me some pc games and I spend more time in my sister's because his son has a pc so I can teach and play with him; that makes mom go crazy: Why you come here? To be there all day long and play that xxxx? What about me? your brother?...
So, am I too old for this?

If you enjoy doing something and are still physically capable of doing it I would argue that you can never be "too old" for it.

For the specific example of computer games I think that the suggestion that one could be too old to play computer games is just out to lunch. I know plenty of people in their 50s to 80s who are avid computer game players. My uncle is probably the best Grand Theft Auto player that I have ever come across. As a matter of fact, if a computer game involves driving fast cars he probably has it and is damned good at it.

Of course, that doesn't mean that you might not be playing them too often but that is a matter of time management.

You are not too old for it, and should not stop playing unless it gets in the way of your career and life (also, with your expertese knowledge of games maybe you can, when out of work, find a job at a computer/game magazine)

I never though myself as too old for this, like JSBB says, if you enjoy it...
Sometimes there are time issues, I had this girfriend once that didn't like me "spending" time playing on my pc, what you do then? I want to "spend" some moment (just an hour or 2 in a week) but she doesn't want that I spend even 5 minutes... Would you quit it?
Now is a different story, my girfrien likes it, in fact, she's good at it, and she's 32...

My advice, don't spend the rest of your 30's playing video games.

Well Sydax, if I had a girlfriend who objected to me spending an hour or two a week doing something that I enjoy I would probably think that this girl is far too controlling and show her the door.

If you enjoy what you do, by all means keep doing it, and don't let anyone tell you what you should or should not do. Of course, if all you do is sit in front of your PC and play games, neglecting everything else in your life, you have a slight problem. :D

But if it's your hobby, you're definitely not too old for it. Who decides what age you should be to do certain stuff anyway ? One person collects stamps or coins, another likes to jump off bridges with a bungee rope, another loves to assemble and disassemble vehicles, and you like to play games, so what ?

In my street lives an old man (i think he's in his seventies) and he plays with electric trains. His house is totally adjusted to those little trains. He sits in the middle, and watches the show. To each his own, no ? ;)

If you're happy with it, truly happy, then it's ok.

If games prevent you from getting something else you need (work, studies, hobbies, a sexlife), then it's obviously a problem. But like said, if you have what *you* need, what makes you happy, then it's nobody else's business.

I'm 22, played games since 9 or something. And my family's told me I'm too old since I was 10. ;)

To be honest, I believe games will be some part of my life as long as I live. My imagination and desire for new adventures is just too great for a regular "gameless" life.

My last girlfriend didn't approve of me playing videogames at all..she was gone pretty fast. But to answer your question no you aren't. I know many people in their 40's who still love to play videogames.

Your never too old for video games or candy or anything that makes your feel good inside.

I plan on playing BG-XX with my virtual headgear on computers that no longer need keyboards that read brainwaves. :borg:

I think I will follow the sentiment of most other people here. I certainly think that you must prioritize your life, and see what things are most important to you. For example, I have concluded that my work, career, and a relationship with my wife all come before gaming, which is probably a wise decision. That having been said, once I have fulfilled those other criteria, I have no problem playing games. I would say that I play games almost daily, from about 1730-1900.

As a resident "old guy" (37), and given that Splunge is gone for two weeks, I will chime in as follows: If you are playing games such that you find yourself more looking forward to playing the game than anything else during the day, it's time to step back and reassess. If the game is merely your version of TV watching or book reading or something like that, no big deal.

I play one CRPG or another on average three nights a week for about an hour or two at a pop. That's about all.

Where's Splunge when you need him? He's the unofficial pin-up boy for the greying, balding, members of SP and he'll set you straight.

I agree with dmc. And in your case, Sydax, you are visiting love ones that you don't often see. It is a good advice that you prioritize them. What's the point of going to their place if you're not going to spend time doing things with them. And besides, you can always play your games when you're at home.

Well, my situations is particular one, because two months ago I lost my job, so I live my days trying to find a new one, is not that I need it badly because I do some other particular jobs, by the time when I was with my former girfriend, she didn't like that I play any game at all, computer is for work, she said, my life never was only playing games style, but this is my hobby, this is what I do when I got tired to see the same stupid things on TV or when I read every book I bought and even after doing some sports and see friends. But I see/think/feel that playing games (most pc) is a part of my life, it has just a very little piece of the cake but still is part of it. Why some people deny/don't like some things that you do? even if that the thing you do doesn't hurt anybody.
But worry not, You will hear from me, because now, is a new era in my life, but that's for another post...
    Best regards

Good thing that she's your former girlfriend. She shouldn't be trying to change you if you belong together.

That says it all pretty well.

Few days later after my game-encounter I was finishing for the third time Moon Patrol, I was very good at it, then one day, they made a tournament, remember that you could put your initials when you made a record? Well, the rules for the tournament were that you had to sign in a book what you signature would be so I picked DAX because by that time I was readin a comic named that way, so I won in Moon Patrol and Phoenix... every place form 1st to 5th, so the gave me a little cup full of coins so imagine: I had almos 500 coins, almost to play forever! because of course, being good in a game gives you the chance to play several hours (like ancients games, not like the new ones that are made to lose so you can buy another coin). So, from that day, Jesper, I made a promise to me: I'm going to play this things forever! Anyway, long ago I forgot that promise but I always find a little time to play them again.
