Is anyone here ambidextrous? Not the one in the games, but in real life. If you are, were you born ambidextorus or was it leraned? I'm curious as to how someone is ambidextorus.

    I'm kind of...I can;

    - Play piano
    - Write (kind of)
    - Draw (kind of)

etc etc. I sort of taught myself how to. :)

Well when I'm practrising sword fighting I dont have any problem using two swords. It's actually easier. Anyway I have always been since I can remember. Also I can easily write with both hands!

Padeen, you talk a lot of bullsh*t and its getting on my nerves.

I could once write with both hands but now I can't

Edit: In response to your email Padeen (as you have requested that I don't reply). Unless you are talking of the sport fencing, then I don't think that you can possibly have a sword and train with it. Ambidexterity can be gained by practise or can very well be a natural feat. If you have proof to back up your claims, then I will accept your explanation.

It seems that EVERYONE claims to be ambidextrous in some manner. Everyone recognizes that's a special gift and wants to lay claim to it.

Now, let me be the first to say that I am not ambidextrious. I've been called a switch hitter before, but that's different.

I'm not ambidexterious (it would be cool though...) but my friend is. He can write and rdaw with both hands at the same time! It's freaky to watch!

If people here say the are ambidextrous it might be because the question was for those who are ambidextrous to reply. :)

I'm not ambidextrous. There you go. :D

While on the subject of ambidexterity and dual wielding I'd like to make a small observation.

I trained fencing - mostly the epee - years ago for fun and exercise. From my experience, which admittedly is small, dual wielding in the styles of fencing we see today with epee and foil would be very, very difficult.
I can see the off hand being used effectively as a second parry, but to get in an attack with it?

Yes it looked very difficult. I don't know whether padeen does it or not, it looks like a very hard thing to do.

Ambidexterity is very rare, however, I've found a happy medium.

When I'm down the pub, I'm equally adept at lifting my beer to my mouth with both hands. Now thats useful, unlike swordplay.....

Well lately I've been having lots of mock battles with friends in school at lunch time with dagger sized objects and everyone agrees dual-weilding is so much better. Everyone who has fought with us has been able to use two dagger-sized objects equally adept, it's great. In in the case of dual-weilding swords, it's extremely difficult unless the sword in your off-hand is either extremely light or extremely small, and yes, it would most likely be used for parrying rather than attack.

I'd love to be fully ambi-dextrous though...

What defines ambidexterity? Is it that you can write with both your hands? Or draw a circle with one hand and a rectacle with your other hand at the same time?

I am right-handed, but there are a lots of things I automaticly do with my left hand. I am stronger in my right hand however. I am sure I don't have ambidexterity.

I'm not truely ambi. The defination says you're profecient with either hand, but in reality it means you can do two seperate things at the same time. It's less motor corridination, and more cognitive ability (multitasking; heh).

I can use a mouse/trackball with either hand. I can write/print fluently (but, much prettier with my left "other" hand, and slightly slower) with either hand. Brush my teeth/comb my hair/shave, use a wrench/screwdriver, throw a baseball, use a joystick.

About the only thing I really can't do with either hand is pick my nose. It's strictly a left hand function. I've tried to learn with my right hand a few times, but it's just too ackward, and I don't put in enough practice.

[IMG] I can wave either of my hands weakly in a camp gesture. However, that's pretty much where it ends.

Well, I'm good at typing with either hand. But otherwise, I am in no way ambidexterous. I have a friend who was; he was right-handed, but wrote with his left hand. (Or maybe it was the other way around)

Personally, I think that one must be a truly accomplished and trained person to fight with two swords of equal size, especially if they're pretty large. The imbalance of the amount of force and accuracy exerted by each hand makes it too hard to do so, unless you're extremely ambidexterous and have training in fighting that way. On the other hand, fighting with a light sword (say, a rapier) and a dagger is easier, because it's easier to just stab or thrust with a weaker hand. Using an off-hand weapon to only parry is realistic, though.
