This question is for any P&P grid-based RPG:

Anyone know where there's a good (free is always good) mapping utility for structures/dungeons? I'll keep searching, and if I find one before I get a reply, I'll put it on the forum myself.

Basically I'm getting tired of expending pencil after pencil and ream after ream of graphing paper.

I know there are some (used them in the past) - but they suck. I absolutely can't stand them, and generally the maps you make with them look extremely dodge - like the graphics of an early RPG or something.

Pen and paper seems to be the way to go, annoyingly enough. A google search for 'map maker' or something will, however, find you what you want quickly.

Sweet--got it. Found a couple. Think you're right, though ... they look a bit cheesy at best. But compared to my non-artistic, scraggle-handed script, I can't imagine it being a bad thing.
What's the down-side? Okay, dopey graphics aside (which is a preference thing--I can deal with line drawings if necessary; it's purely utilitarian for my purposes since the description comes from my mouth, not the map ...), why else do they suck--are they user-unfriendly/etc?
