I can't for the life of me remember where the guy is who makes Ankheg armour for you. I can remember finding him by pure luck, but I don't remember where.

Try Taerom Fuirim in Beregost. He'll offer to make the armour for you if you have an Ankheg shell in your inventory when you speak to him.

The blacksmith Thuderhammer in the main Beregost area in the East, near the point where you meet Elminster in Beregost.

    w. d. is right, there is a free set of it in the garden on ;the west edge of town in Nashkel. I don't remember the grid numbers, but I found it by passing the cursor slowly over the area.

Actually it's on the western edge of a ploughed field, near a small (evergreen) tree.

Yeah, I find it how Morgoth does it. There's a section of the plowed field where there's only a single pine tree, and it's a little bit south and east of that pine tree.

I've tried talking to Thunderhammer with Ankheg shells in my inventory, but I'm not getting the option. I can remember being given the option to sell a shell to him for 500 gold, but it seemed to be a one-time thing, as he refuses to even buy the things now.

I can specifically remember a man(I think it might have been a dwarf) in the city of Baldur's Gate who offers to make Ankheg Armour for you, but I haven't played this game in about 3 years, and I'd found him by a fluke anyway.

That's it then. If you sell the ankheg shell, he won't make the armour.

When he offers to buy the shell, you should refuse. Then he'll propose to make the armour.

The dwarf in Baldur's Gate can be found behind the Iron Throne tower, if you enter the NW sector where there's Hall of Wonders from the SW sector (Flaming Fist headquarters), but he doesn't make any armours, he just wants to buy some ankheg shells.

How long have you been walking around with the shells? At one point it rots and is useless, IIRC after 10 days.

IIRC it's something like 2000 gp.

edit: but that seems too cheap, so maybe it was 4000 or 5000 gp.

Doesn't matter, I found out it's 4000gp. I guess I'm just going to have to use Keeper to withdraw the money and shells and replace them with the armour. ah, well. At least I'll be prepared next time.

-I've never had any problems with ankheg shells decomposing. I usually store quite a few of them in a barrel not too far from Thunderhammer. I've also sold him shells and then had him make armor afterwards. The only thing I came across is that if you have multiple shells in your inventory when he asks to buy one or make armor he'll take the lot without any multiplication of cash or armor.

-You can find grid references for all "hidden" items in the Tips & Tricks section on the BG main page.

Because it's one-third as heavy as full plate with the same AC, available earlier *coughNashkelcoughfreecough*, and there are only so many suits of full plate anyway. And since it's a creature-scale armor it shouldn't be marked as enchanted (though it is), which would make it just plain better than regular full plate if you eliminated it from the ITEMEXCL.2DA file.

 Yeah, I said that. But as a creature-scale armor and not a +x enchanted armor, it shouldn't be that way. Same deal with the dragon scale armors in BG2.

I also said that it's available much earlier, at which point the best you could likely do is regular plate mail and a RoP +1. Not to mention it's about 50 pounds lighter, for those STR-challenged NPCs. (Jaheira or Khalid in particular benefit greatly.)

Its considered a plate mail plus 2 which equals out to full plate.

Except that Full plate has the extra -4 vs. Slashing and -3 vs. Piercing AC modifiers, whereas Ankheg Plate only has the plate mail standard -3 vs. Slashing. That makes a huge difference, imo.
