Annoying problem!

I dunno what happened to my BG. Now everytime I enter any place that has a movie, the stupid movie will repeat again and again. When first entered, the moovie is shown for the first time. Then whenever i walk a few steps the movie runs again! Super annoying. Anyone encounter this b4?

I tried to uninstall the whole thing and reinstall, also patched, but same thing happens.

Also can anyone send his baldur.ini to me since my movie settings gone after uninstall. Best for those nearly finishing the whole game as I reached Chap.6 now, and finished all ToSC sidequests. TQ!

Maybe something with the cd? A scratch or something that causes the problem? I thought you could somewhere in a ini file set the movies to 0, then the movie will not be played. After you did the area I suppose you can enable the movies again, I think the problem is with one movie only.

In the Baldur.ini file, near the bottom there is a section called: [Movies] and then a list a movies that the game registers as already been seen. This is the list that I had after succesfully completing BG and TotSC. I think I have all the movies, so your problem should be sorted. Just copy this: [Movies]

over your Movies section in Baldur.ini and that should solve the problem.

 

Yep, I suppose that you have to set the value of the movie that gives the problems to 0.

 

Finally, some people who had the same problems as I did. Those morons a tech support had absoloutly no clue. I'm still baffled as to how they get their job. This happend three times to me: BG sewers, Iron Thone, and Candlekeep. If you keep trying, you can actually move to the next floor on the Iron Throne and Candlekeep Library buildings, and it will quite repeating. However, when I managed to do this and got to a critical quest completion part of the game, it triggered some kind of nasty bug and the game didn't realize I had completed the quest. For example, after I completed the Iron Throne quest and went to tell whoever it was that I was supposed to tell (can't remember it's been so long), their dialog was the same as if I had never started the quest. Eventually I replayed it enough times where I did get to complete the quest and move on to chapter six though. However, the same movie bug happened in the library, and no matter what I did I could never get myself arested on the top floor. I kept replaying and replaying, but it never worked. Eventually I just gave up and used the mission pack save from ToTSC, imported my chacacter and all my parties items, picked up the other party members I needed, and finished the games end battle. I've still never played the last half of chapter six or most of chapter seven, which I'm definately not fond of at all. That's definately the worst game bug I've encountered so far with any Black Isle/Bioware game, but it didn't really ruin the game for me. I just wish I could have completed the game the whole way trough

I think I know the cause of our problems.

Here's my status when getting the stupid movie repeating prob:

1. ToSC installed, Durlag's Tower finished, Tanarri killed, Balduran Island explored.

2. However, I jumped to ToSC quests after Flamming Fist second commander asked me to investigate 7 stars. I didn't go there, instead I went to Ulgoth.

3. The problem starts after I killed the cult's devil, Tanarri. After I killed it, no exp were granted, nor the guy who asked me to kill it got anything to say, just NO VALID REPLIES in the dialog box.

4. After that I went to Baldur's Gate for other subquests. Eg the bogeyman one. I followed exactly like what the hints (3 dif copies) say and killed the real bogey. According to the hints, I can talk to the druid and got a wand as a reward, then talk to the twins for exp and scrolls. However, it didn't happen. The most frastruating thing is that I'm not arrested in the library at all! I spent 'years' there but no one seems to arrest me, regardless I killed or not the 4 Iron Throne ppl.

Eventually I started again from the savegame when I just returned from Durlag's Tower and the dagger was stolen. Then the guy in the inn asked me to stop the cults. So from there, I went back to BG. Guess what, those problems never exist again! And the twin's problem as 4. above also solved. I can get the reward when talking to the druid.

So I think the most suspicious cause will be the devil Tanarri. Until now I haven't killed it to make sure everything goes rite.

It's disappointing to have this serious bug in the nice nice BG. It's indeed one of the best RPG game, but for some of the players like me, it's sometimes annoying esp the movie repeating part. Imagine we had to walk and 'enjoy' the movie every 2 seconds! However, it's over now!

That's an interesting idea. I basically did the same thing. I picked up Quayle at the BG bridge and the guard asked me to investigate the seven suns coaster. After that, I went around doing the multiple areas that I had neglected since I had got caught up in the plot and had moved rather quickly through chapter 4. After that, I went to Ulgoth's beard and did everything there, including Durlag's tower. However, when I killed the Tanari, I got the experiece, and I also never had any problems with any of the other quests in BG, including the twins quest. So I'm not completely sure that's the deal, but it very well may be as well. Good luck and please tell everyone how the game goes. I might reinstall (heh-suuurrreeee, with ToB fastly aproaching ) and play it through if your idea works out.

 

I really have to thank you all! Always there is someone here with a really weird bug in this old game, and I who thought my computer was bad!

It's good to have problems like this here on the boards, when many people think about a problem the change is much higher that someone finds a solution!

 

After applying what I suggested on my previous post, everything was fine, until I used the cheat codes.

I was very anxious to play BG2, but I wanted to finish BG1 first. Due to the time constraint, I started to use CTRL-J cheats to move faster. But sadly, in the final chapter when I entered the palace which Sarevok was giving talks, the speaker isn't there! I saw only the guards and 'noblemans', but not Sarevok. And the movie repeating comes again!!! I was very frustrated with BG1 already so I loaded the game and skipped the rescue of Duke Eltan and other subquests, and immediately went to the palace after killing the assasins in the undercellar. Now the movie repeating for the palace no more. But after Sarevok escaped to the maze, I followed him and to the undercity, the stupid problem comes again, again and again. Even I tried very hard to enter the final battle place (the Bhaal church), there got another movie! It's driving me crazy.

Finally, even I had cleaned the place and killed all Sarevok's henchmen, but the big boss just won't appear..... Guess what I did out of desprate? I just use the cheat to create some Drizzt and a Sarevok, and let the Drizzts killed him. Suprisingly the game ENDED after the death of the Sarevok clone.

Eventually I can move on to BG2, which is a far more interesting and thrilling game.

Do you guys think that applying cheat codes (CTRL-J) is the main cause of this problem, or is due to ToSC? Also do guys think that the problem is stored in the savegame too? Meaning even I use my savegame on other PCs, the problem still exists.

I think you just cheated and skipped to much. Things like that can mess upo the story and the game and some essential things in the game cannot be skipped. For example when you want to skip Elthan and your visit to Candlekeep you can also not go to the crowning of Sarevok.

And your opninion about BG2 and BG1, I disagree, the story in BG1 is much better then in BG2.

 

Hard to say really. I never used any cheat codes, yet the those damn movie problems were bad enough that I could never finish the game the proper way myself. And, again, I'm not sure if it's because of the TotSC expansion being installed or not. I didn't have a problem with the movies in the expansion, did you? But I did have major problems with the rest of the movies in the game after I installed the expansion. So it might be a problem with that; it might not. Who knows. I'm just glad they didn't have a lot of movies or cut scenes in BG2.

Incidently, if you want to finish the game, I'd try finishing it from the Mission Pack from Totsc. Just import all your items, pick up some characters, boost their experience if you wish by killing some wryns or golems, and head to the undercity to kill Sarevok. I'ts a pain, but it's the only way I could find to finish the game. I tried to use someone elses save game from the start of chapter six, but it just wan't the same, and as much as I tried, I couldn't configure my party or weapons to make it the same. Oh well.

By the way, the problem could be with the CD's. I'm not sure if it's with the save game, but I did a complete uninstall and complete re-install of the game, and when I used an old save game, I still had the same problems. If you have a friend, I might try borrowing his CD's and playing the game. It might just be some defective CD's.

 

From "other" boards that I visit, I've seen MANY problems fixed by doing a good cleaning of the disks...
