This annoying math question is regarding cumulative fire resistance. Is there a reason why successive fire resistances add less and less?

For example Anomen had his shield (25%), the dragon helm (20%), ring of fire resistance (50%), and a potion of fire resistance (50%). Somehow instead of 145% I only got to 112%.

I read on a previous post that fire damage can actually heal your character above 137% (can anyone confirm?) But I couldn't seem to get above 112. Is there a reason for this, other than getting me to lose sleep?

Actually, the maximum resistance you can get to fire is 127%. If you have over 100, I think it will heal your character, but only slighty. The more Fire Res. you have, the more it heals (thoery).

The reason your fire Res. only got to 112% may be that since you can't go above 127%, one of the items is cancalled (partially?). It could also be a bug.

112 is such an odd number...

Make sure you note the difference between items that set a particular stat to something and items that increase the stat by something.

IIRC I got burned by that before for charisma. Casting friends (increase CHA by 6) and then equipping the ring of human influence (set CHA to 18) results in a CHA of 18. Doing it the other way around results in a CHA of 24 (set to 18, then add 6, instead of add 6 then set to 18).

But this doesn't explain the 112 though.

Ring of Fire Res is only 40%.
Ring that charms fire elementals is 50% Fire Res.

    Still 112% seems strange.
Maybe potions don't work normaly once over 100%?
Either way you are safe from fire dude! ;)
