Except this is not comparing the sorcer to a Blade or C/M or anything like that it's comparing the versatility of haveing 3-4 mage types with a single Sorcerer.

For example one of my favorite party combo's is this

    Blade
    Imoen
    Sola
    Aerie
    R(9)/C
    Keldorn

This party lack's a Sorcerer in favour of having a more Versatile party, if I replace any of these characters with a Sorcerer I'll either lose fighting healing or theiving ability, and in case anyone think's "just take a sorcerer and pocket plane Imoen in whenever you need her for traps and locks", well for some reason I find it difficult to play through the game without Imoen it just makes me feel like something is missing.

But back to the topic the real question that I am asking is would it be better to have one full class mage, two M/C mages and one Blade or just a sorcerer, considering how many possibility and how versatile it is to have a M/C character over a pure character particulary is it is a mage/cleric. Now these four characters together would end up been able to cast more spells at a more rapid rate if Imoen or any other has a the robe and the only disadvantage that I know of is that they need to prepare more then the Sorcerer would but will probably end up with the same amount of spells every level and to top it off are more versatile, which is probably better then having the best fighter, cleric, thief or mage party possible in the game.

Personally, I prefer your style of party make-up. Yes, a sorcerer can have more spells available, but versatility is very important.

You have to prepare more, but you can handle lots of different situations. I think having several characters casting (slightly) lower level spells all together is better than one higher level sorcerer.

Having a thief that can cast high-level mage spells is awesome. Invisible, remove traps, cast offensive spells, invisible, run. Great!

Having a mage/cleric can be awesome. I think the fact you can use cleric spells in sequencers is whats makes this great. You have the benefit of doom-doom-doom-chromaticorb or self healing from triggers. What a great combo.

Having a blade that can buff-up, go into combat, cast offensive spells, etc. This is just awesome as well.

The sorcerer is great and his power is well known, but its the versatility that counts. Plus, I think that the levels you can reach in TOB negate the low-level problems of multi-class characters. The HLAs can be used by the multi-classes at the same xp as the sorcerer so there is no downside here either.

What you have is the ability for at least one character to always be able to cast some sort of offensice or defensive spell, if anything ever goes wrong. Unless of course all 4 characters get disabled - which is very unlikely.

Finally, if you do use a sorcerer then who would you replace. You need a thief and a cleric. You could replace the blade, but you lose out on some combat abilities.

Or you could replace Imoen with your own theif dualled to a mage and then ShadowKeepered into the extremely formidable THeif-->Sorceror.
