Another topic of time travel

Now in the other time traveling thread made by Dias, I noticed something. Most everyone who said they would go to the past said the exact date.

Now I pose a set of questions to you in the form of a scenario. There is an amazing new invention, made by some crazy scientist somewhere that allows time travel. There is an accident, and you (and only you) are struck by a time travel beam while hiking in the woods. Now, while you have camping suppiles, some food, and clothes, you do not have any guns, cell phones, palm pilots, ect.

Now, when in this beam, you hear a voice from a computer system. It tells you that you are initiated in a time travel program (this means no backing out), and you have to choose you destination. It reminds you of the following: a) You cannot travel into a time where a former version of you exists, or will exist for at least 1 year; b) You will be pulled back forwards exactly 720 hours (30 days) after you have arrived; c) You need to choose the day, year, and geographical location. You will be placed in that time at exactly noon.

Now here are the questions, which are significantly shorter than the scenarion. What year would you go to, which geographic area would it be, what would you do for one month, and why?

 

I would get a historybook and try to find out if Oprah eventually exploded.

The one I can think of off-hand is the day before the Ides of March, 44 B.C. in the Forum at Rome.

And no, I wouldn't try to save Julius Caesar. I hope that I could carry something to write on (stylus & wax tablet comes to mind) so I could record what I saw.

If it had to be a second choice, though, it would have to be some time shortly before Jeanne d'Arc was killed. I'd do something foolish to try to save her and probably die trying, or somesuch.

 

I'd pick either:

105 AD Spain or Gaul - One year before Trajan embarks on the Dacian Wars, roughly 6 years before Rome reaches the height of its power.

or

1950 AD East Coast, USA - Generally one of the most peaceful times in history. And I know which baseball teams to bet on!

Well traveling backwards in time, for example to kill Hitler, would not be a great idea since it would undoubtedly cause you not to be born. Even doing a small thing could have the same affect. But then you have to concider the fact that you were never born and therfor you would never had traveled back in time and commited your deeds. But you would still have to had traveled back in time to commited your deed for you to be able to not being born. Vicious cykle. Traveling back in time is deemed as impossible if you commit any act connected to a today-known event, anything connected to your parents and your familys history like a person or place. Even the tinyest thing could change a persons life, but as said, the life wouldnt be changed since the thing occured in a time before, although you would still have to make the changes.

Anyway, traveling forward in time would be the safest thing, since it wouldnt affect your life in this time. My vision of time travel would be to reach lightspeed in 0 seconds, therefor I wouldnt be moving in time, but the normal would would appear to be going faster in time than normaly to me.

So I would travel foward in time, perhaps a few thousand years forward, to see what has happened.

Get my theories and thoughts?

 

Bahir, we are going on the theory that you can travel back in time and change events. Going by your line of reasoning though, travelling forward in time could be said to have the same problems. ie, if you travel forward, learn that something is going to happen, then you travel back and prevent it from happening, then how could you go forward and find out that it was going to happen in the first place?

Anyway, this is just a fun thread to say what we would do if we could. So, if you could, what would you do?

 

Back in time: kill Hitler (if I wouldnt cease to exist that is) and probably steal quite alot of gold and diamonds. I would also like to know what killed the dinosaurs, but if it was indeed a meteor, traveling to that time would not be wise. Perhaps I would also give the native americans some modern-day technology and invent the wheel for them, just as an experience to see what would have happened later when the europeans came.

Forward in time: Travel from year to year to see how the world evolves, and to see when we finaly (or publicly) discover life on other planets, hopefully intelligent life, or when the earth is invaded... Since you can choose geographical location you could use this time-mashine as a space traveling device aswell. The problem is only to do all this within 30 days...

I dont know when, but I'd just stop the trade agreement from ever being made.
