I've been having trouble getting the game to save.

The game will say "save successful" but then a window will pop up telling me it wasn't and asking me if I want to quit.

I use a Mac version of SoA w. ToB.

I suspect this has something to do with the mods I added to the game since whenever I ran into save problems before I could just delete some old saves and that would fix it.

I mostly have played with a vanilla game but decided to add a few mods for the fun of it-so I duplicated my BG2 on my computer and started putting the mods in the copy (in case anything went wrong I still had my vanilla game if I wanted to run through it).

Mods I added were Nalia Romance and Kitanya for sure.

I had some issues adding a bunch of the other mods so I'm not sure if they are part of the game or not these are: Amber, Wheels, Alternatives, Angelo, Tweaks, & Fixpack. Though I think it is quite possible the last few at least aren't actually integrated into the game.

Anyway. Does anyone know why I would be having so much trouble saving? Any suggestions?

Sounds similar to a problem I descibed in post #3 of this thread (but I'm running XP). I 'm still (slowly) playing that game, and still having the problem, but it seems to be more of an inconvenience than anything else.

So basically, I share your pain, but can offer no assistance. :(

Thanks for the sympathy. Unfortunately my problem seems to be a bit worse in the if I try to do a new save it will not appear and if I get the message on an autosave between places the small image on the load screen will be of where the autosave failed but when I load it then I find my party at the last place the autosave was actually successful.

I opened up the a file from when I labelled a save that wasn't successful and noticed the .sav .gam. and worldmap.wmp files were each missing the the portraits of the correct party members I had at the time were there.

Something was saved and something not.

Did you have that problem with the whole game or with a certain time you played it? Trying to guess if there is a problem with the game or with the a certain save file that causes problem with each of the following saves.... the most likely suspect in my mind is one of the mods but if that isn't the case I'll be pleased.

I'm not sure if it should have happened but my Inquisitor (I usually take the Undead Hunter but found it ironic or strangely fitting to have that kit do this) has both the Keep as a stronghold and is Radiant Heart. Though that may be a plus of Romancing Nalia as a "warrior" (1st time I've done that).

I had that same problem all the way through EasyTutu to ToB, and it didn't seem to cause any headaches except for the obvious inconvenience.

One educated guess for the cause of it could be that BG was designed during the time when programs had more or less direct access to the HD so the programmers put some assertive timeouts on the save procedure. However, nowadays the HD operations are usually bunched together to make more effective use of it and can thus cause delays for this particular write/verify operation. Even more so if your virus scanner makes its checks before allowing the write operation to complete.

But as said, that's just speculation from my part...
