Awed with my poor form (then :shake: ), I eventually started running again in january 2006. Before I didn't do any sports for years. I'm running 5 to 8 miles twice a week now, and I think starting again was one of my better ideas last year (and a 2006 new years resolution).

    Any other runners around here?

I used to run three times a week a 5km route, in tha last four months of my military service I ran nearly daily a 10km terrain route (it was quite tough I can tell you), right now I've been a bit lazy and I really don't like running in the winter so I usually stop at snowfall. Right now there's no snow though so I might start again with the running but the cold is also something which takes a lot of enjoyment out of running in my opinion so it possibly has to wait until spring. I've been thinking about nordic skiing for winter, I really haven't done it for a long time but it's good excercise for winter.

In any case, in the proper weather and on the proper route running can be very relaxing

    I never run.

    I find it very unhealthy.

For some reason when I run, my heart starts stinging and burning, so I don't run. I control my breathing too, so it isn't because I am not getting enough oxygen or anything. And I am in good health condition minus that. But I don't like running, usually.

I'd hate to break it to you but that would usually be a sign of bad form. ;)

However I'm not a physician so I could be wrong but when I was in bad form a few years ago the symptoms you mention were all too familiar.

I find it cool how you after half an hour can blank out your mind and just run and think of nothing. Very relaxing.

In the army I did my 10km every morning.

10km seems to be the army standard. ;)

Curiously the exercise we had at the start was not nearly as tough as I had expected, they started to issue that later. I guess it's because they want to be careful not to scare to many of those in bad shape to take civilian service instead.

I agree completely with you on the feeling after running, however the thing I enjoy the most is how I basically forget all my worries when I run. I concentrate fully on the running and until I stop nothing else matters. Works for me a lot better than anything else as an escape from reality. When it's cold and slippery the feeling breaks when you need to think about not slipping on every other step. If it rains a lot it's also disturbing, small dripping won't matter though.

I used to run...when I was out of cigarettes. ;)

The last time I truly ran anywhere was the day I got caught in a furnace explosion. I ran up the street to my folks' house for help.

    Ah!

I stopped smokin' 3 weeks ago. I'm doing very well. If I started sports any time soon, I'd be called a fanatic, but I'm resisting that urge too. :D

I know I need more cardio workout. My last run was back in April, a 10km charity run. Since I didn't prepare for it, I decided not to push myself too hard, meaning I didn't run the whole way. Surprisingly, it was my foot that hurt most, from all that pounding away at the pavement.

So, no I'm not a runner. But I'll run for fun at times.

I ran a couple of half marathons a few years ago, but now I can't be bothered with all the training.

I think about going an a half marathon in August 2007, here in Cologne. I begin to warm up to the idea. Running about 20 km seems reasonably doable and not yet crazy for me.

When I go for an occasional 13km my only problem are my shoes and blisters, not my endurance. What I donn't look forward to that I'd run on asphalt. Bad for knees and feet.

I hate running on asphalt and only do terrain running. Small distances on asphalt are ok in order to reach the terrain but if I do asphalt more than a few kilometers my knees will crack.

I'm an orienteer, and I've been it for almost ten years now. it's way better than to run on the streets or alike places.

It is. At least if you are overweight. I tried it a few years ago, lost a bit weight, but had to stop. My poor knees...

Now, I try to use my bike as much as possible.

I do some block running as training for Basketball. I always stay fairly fit in a cardiovascular way over the summer because of canoeing but end up having to build up my run in preparation for the basketball season. I'll probably run a few blocks soon (I feel like I'm being a bit lazy doing nothing atm - just finished school).

I'm 175 lbs and 6' 1'', and my doctor has never said anything that should worry me. I have super-low cholestoral (if that counts...) too.

Well the lack of excercise and obesity or even over-weight are not really the same thing. My poor physical form was never mentioned to me by any doctors, I saw that well enough myself when I tried to run and I've never been overweight, had high cholesterol levels or blood pressure. Bad physical form often shows only when you excercise and is very deceptive in nature. The consequences of not excercising might well come out only when you reach middleage and then it often means more drastic measures.
