I have a damn P4 2 GHZ, 256 RAM comp and the game still runs at about 5 fps when i start casting spells. Any way of eliminating the slowdown? Same thing was with IWD1 but the god blessed 3D mode saved the day but there is no 3D mode in IWD2 so i don't really know what to do.

I had a prob with that in BG1, It seems like your cache size is too large..

But other than that, you can lower the resolution, etc etc

um the lowest resolution is 800x600 and that's what i'm running the game in. As for the cache i'll try that :)

The only thing that worked was turning off the transluent spell effects option but the spells look so bad now :( As for the Slowdown fixes they fix the problems that are fixed in the patch (at least i think so)

    White Storm:

Extremist will know about this one. But I'd say it's your sound card.

    Are you using an Audigy?

I have a XP and SB Live value. And I get slowdown, but it's because there's 30+ enemies on the screen, and I'm using a killsword, and there's gibbs flying everywhere and 60ups (updates per second) is tough to keep up with. Otherwise, it cruises along very well.

But I don't think it ever drops to 5. Maybe 20. Possibly 10 or 15 when there's a lot of spells going on from shamans, but that's for about one second. Not enough for me to cuss the game; but sometimes I cuss how fast everything gets wiped out.

    Turn off your EAX?

Well i have a built in soud card which is erm called Advance AC something in the Device Manager, EAX is off and it's enough to cast a dingle Bless or Firestorm or Prayer, Meteor Swarm etc. (no enemies on screen) to get an enormous slowdown and as i have mentioned turning off the spell transluency helps. Oh and i tried turning the sound off - doesn't help.

"Well i have a built in soud card"

    Oh, ouch.

That south bridge is taxxed enough playing with the hard disk and USB bus. Not to mention the added work for the north-south link.

Yes. It is going to studder. And I would expect any other CPU intensive game to studder, as well. Warcraft 3, Morrowind, and Medal of Honor probably are pretty tough as well.

You still haven't posted your graphics card.
Also please include which OS you're using.

The SP slowdown fix is not ment for general game slowdown, but for slowdown in certain areas.

ejsmith, have you tried with disabling sound hardware acceleration? (start->run->dxdiag)

Ex, my slowdown occurs on all the BIS games.

But only when there's 30 enemies on the screen, and I'm butchering them left and right and the pathfinding is going crazy at 40,000 nodes and the whole works.

I usually have the AI updates set at 60ups. Soooo. It definately drops down into the 20's at some parts, and down to 5 only for a second during the really major battles (until some of the gibbs stop flying and I've hacked out 10 or so enemies of the 30 that are on-screen). It's not a problem; it's just a limitation of the machine.

    Also, I leave EAX on.

Although, Gabriel might benefit from what you're talking about. It sounds like his computer is either severly underpowered or his sound is nailing him.

I was getting graphical corruption, earlier, but for whatever reason it has gone away. I think it was a combination of the 2.01b patch and one of the detonator driver versions.
