I was wondering if anybody else has a particular game that has a special place in your heart, not because of anything directly related to the game itself, but because it led to something else in real life.

For instance, the Gold Box game Curse of the Azure Bonds has a special place in my heart because it not only led to me getting its predecessor Pool of Radiance, but also the formation of my P&P AD&D group and some lifelong friendships.

It happened when a bunch of kids were talking about computer games at school, and mentioned really liking CotAB. It was an awesome game, with an innovative gameplay for its time. It was one of the first with tactical combat.

Praise for the game, along with Pool of Radiance and talk about how it was obvious that it was set in an established universe led many of us to get curious about the Forgotten Realms, which of course led to getting information on AD&D.
Fortunately my local library did have a few books (we 11 & 12) and after looking at them, a bunch of us were interested in trying it out with a pre-made module.

This led to 7 years of gaming, and many fond memories. It's been over half a lifetime since my group broke up because we all went to different colleges, and I was just curious if anybody else has a particular game with fond memories because of it leading to something happening outside the game world.

While not my favorite IE game, Baldur's Gate has been responsible for many of the friendships formed in the last 15 years.

I can't remember which game in particular prompted the creation of any of our PnP groups, although IE certainly renewed our interest in 2nd ed. D&D.
