[IMG] True enough, that's why your priest hs to memorize lots of Negative Plane protections.

[IMG] Even more annoying when the vampires decide to go for the clerics with the restoration spell :(.

It's nothing in BG2 really, but a simple annoyance of running back to a temple or casting a spell.

It's worse in pen and paper, especially when you're in the middle of no where, deep in some ancient crypt or lost in a maze of passages with more undead hunting you down.

Target only and it doesn't last for very long either, so stock up on them.

What I usually did was cast them on my two best fighters or sometimes all four and head in as quickly as possible to take down the worst undead in the area.

[IMG] What about Holy Smite? That should churn up those undead without harm to your party.

I acutally agree with the PAIN and ANNOYANCE of level drains. There is an 'amulet' that will protect Cleric classed party members from level drain that can help you.

Also (I regret this because I 'dismissed' the value of this item in a previous post) there is the mace of Disruption that is available upon handling the Sir Charles Art Quest of the Temple of Helm and The Shadow Master quest to take out the rival guild. The Lithillum can be used to coat the MACE by Cromwell which also protects you from level drain.

Keeping scrolls or having the spells mentioned above helps as well. But if you have a 'Top Notch' fighter, dual weapon him even if he doesn't have the skill, place the enhanced mace in his 'off' hand and send him in for these battles. Your other party members can be range attackers or healers.

-At least it works for me.

The Mace of Disruption is great, but Windspear is a little early for it... The axe Azuredge works really well for keeping Vampires down, and the clerical Turn Undead works well for me against other undead as well...

Thanks I was using the axe Azuredge and have nearly completed the Hill's (only the mask to collect).
I'll watch out for the mace when I get there but at the moment I'm only on my last 2 or 3 quests on chapter 2.
    Thanks for the help everyone.

Hate lvl drain, but it does make fairly easy enemies MUCH harder though. Plus its a pain as ur character always has, like, half there hit points and can even be killed by a goblin.....*ahurm!*....

The thing that annoys me is that my mage (can priests learn it?) is unable to learn the spell to purge the level drain so I have to pay 1000 gp a pop at getting everyone back to how they were.

Yes. It's called restoration and Clerics can cast it.

Yeah, level drain has caused me some real headaches. I remember a fight where two vampires nailed my main character, nearly killing him. My cleric was able to get a Heal spell off just in time, but it didn't matter, because the Vampires had drained so many levels from my character, that it only took one hit to turn him into giblets. :(

Or the time Minsc was killed half a second after his Negative Plane Protection ran out. Apparently got hit three times :(. And Boo was too young to avenge him...

Try playing an undead hunter (paladin kit).
They're immune to level drain and 'hold'- they also get +3 to hit undead.
The only downside is they dont get the 'lay on hand' ability.
Brilliant against vampires and undead- and of course as paladins they also get 'turn undead' as standard. Makes a big difference in the cemetary!

[IMG] In my experience the easiest way to deal with the undead and lvl draining creatures is to equip your cleric(you have one don't you) with amulet of power and turn the cleric to undead. My protagonist was an priest of Helm and I cleared Bodhi's Lair in ten minutes without any trouble.

naw thats time consuming... i keep each of my mages and clerics with 2-3 restoration scrolls each, and when someone gets level drained i just cast the scroll on em.
