[IMG] A letter came for me today from a place called HTTP://WWW.POETRY.COM claiming I was one of the semi-finalists for their contest...

I submitted a poem for my girlfriend there for a month or two ago and had almost forgotten about it.

But the story don't end here, they want my poem in a poetry collection they are producing and needed my approval...

So what I was wondering is this. Is this a real thing, are they serious when they say they want to put my poem in a book they are making or is it just some clever way of making money off me??

Please reply if you have heard of these people

Would be kind of cool if it was true though....

If they're asking you to pay anything, then you can bet your arse it's a scam. Otherwise, you've got nothing to lose so tell them they can use it.

Was the poem any good by the way? Otherwise, probably also some hoax....

[IMG] Yeah, I tried Poetry.com and got suckered into it.

Your poem WILL be published and all that, but in order to redeam any prizes, whatever, you have to pay money.

They told me that I had the chance to go to Disney World and win $10,000. They had all sorts of information packets and all that. But the cost of the trip comes out to about $2,000. I sent a letter back and basically said, "Up yours." They have yet to get back to me, but it's a drag that they now legally own my poem.

    [IMG] Oh yeah, hehe.

Actually, I've heard that same thing from every single person who ever contributed to that site. All of their poetry got accepted and published in some book or whatnot. It's real alright.

But also obvious that everyone who sends them anything also gets published, which is a bit strange. I mean, seriously, I talked to at least 10 people who sent their poems there and each and every one of them had some of them accepted for their book... :heh:

So in other words it's a hoax.... Damn

Well it would be kind of cool to get it published anyway and I really don't think it is so good that I could make some serious money off it anyway

From a legal stand point (publishing is my specialty) you can give them permission to publish the poem but you still own the poem which means that they must sighn a contract witnessed and counter signed before they own it. So in sumary its still yours and if they try to screw you you can sue them for plajorism, the very minnimum they OWE you is a copy of the publication which cannot legaly be published without furtherpermissions from you to ensure no changes have been made, so if they try anything bury them
