Mom died in her sleep at 8.30a CST today.

I'm okay. I've been grieving on and off since she's been in the hospital. I keep telling people she's better off now: no more pain, her sons are with her.

Sadly, I won't be at the funeral because of money, but my family understands that. It was because of my living in Canada that hubby and I visited last October. Mom figured it would be the last time we saw each other.

She got to see the flowers I sent last Friday and we talked over the phone.

I lost my mother a few years ago. It is a difficult time to go through, make sure you take time to take care of yourself.

 

Kuemper, you're a good person, things like this shouldn't happen to good people. I feel your loss. I'm sorry.

I have to say though - and I'm not being at all funny or whatever with this - but how can you not got to your own mothers funeral? I'd find the money from somewhere to go to my mums funeral... I just hope you don't end up regretting not going because of 'couldn't afford it' reason...

Also, I have to echo Barmy in suggesting you go and damn the cost. Things may end up tight, but you'll be glad you did it. I know I wouldn't have missed my mom's funeral for the world. I can't speak for anyone else, but I'd donate if need be.

Perhaps if there's any way you are able to go to the funeral you should ... I know I regret not going to my uncle's. On the other hand, I know it's not always that simple...

Sort of a morbid title....

But my condolences as well. I lost my father 3 years ago, and find that it's a tough reality to take in, that one of the people who brought you into this world is no longer around. Mother's/Father's day will never be the same.

But, death is one of the few certainties in life, as it comes to us all eventually. Like Bruno said, take the time to grieve, and celebrate the good times you had over the years.

The thread title - yes it's weird, but that stupid book has been in my head since I heard about Mom.

As for not going because of money - Dad would have to mortgage his house. A loan is impossible because no one has enough collateral for a bank to approve one. Asking a "friend" would lead to them holding it over me. Honestly, neither hubby nor myself could deal with travel at this time or hell, even a week from now.

Mostly I wanted anyone who was curious to know Mom wasn't in pain anymore. That's pretty much the big thing about it.
