[IMG] In what way do you mean?
If you mean types of Items; then i'd say Leather or Studded Leather, and short sword i guess. :p
As for Items; the Shadow Dragon Scale is a must. It's AC of 1 is a significant bonus. A high Dexterity to gain maximum thief skills, as the Assassin's skills are less than a normal thief's. A decent strength to make use of the brilliant Backstab (x7 later). A good Constitution score will help the thief survive if he/she backstabs a member of an enemy group, and the rest close in on him after.
There are a few good blades early in the game. Profeciency in Short Swords is a good bet. Or Daggers (Firetooth). Short Bows for the Gesen Bow later on. Apart from that; as many thief skill boosting items as you can muster :p .

Potions of Invisiblity and Cloak of Nondetection. Together, you can perform sneak attacks at will (or retreat at will should the time call for it).

{EDIT] Would you guys recommend the Shadow Dragon Scale or the Human Flesh for armour? [/EDIT]

the studded leather you get off the rouge guild leader plus the boots you get from the lock pick test area work exceptionaly well together.
I would also suggest potions of speed and invisibility.

There are also a couple of rings specially for thieves, one of them is the "mercy killer", the other escapes me.

Weapons, there are a lot of nice daggers out there.

Ring of Danger Sense is the other ring I believe, in the Planar Sphere.

The Mercy Killer ring is only available if you have the Collector's edition shopkeepers installed.
