[IMG] I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm looking forward to this show.

I've always enjoyed theoretical physics (from a layman's perspective, anyway), but the concepts are often difficult to grasp, especially when the related math is way beyond my comprehension. I'm hoping this show will help improve my understanding of string theory.

So now that we've seen the first episode, what do you guys think of it?

I wish I watched this before last year... it would have helped big time in my modern physics courses. I think it did a great job summarizing the history of major developments in physics. Not much detail on his own proposal just yet, but I think that will be for next time.

Sorry it took me so long to respond to this; I actually ended up taping the shows and just got around to watching them this weekend.

How good the shows were obviously depends on how familiar you were with the subject matter previously. I guess I was more knowledgeable than I thought, because out of the 3 hours of program (well, it was probably more like 2½), there was only about a ½ hour of content that I didn’t already know, and another ½ hour that served as a good refresher. And it seemed that they spent a lot of time repeating explanations of gravity, electromagnetism, and the strong and weak forces; granted, the whole point of string theory is to attempt to tie these forces together, but it got a bit redundant after awhile.

Having said that, it was still an interesting show, and for people less familiar with the concepts, but interested in the subject matter, it would have been very good program.
