[IMG] So, do all of those on this board with a DSL connection pay the $40/Mo. premium for it or has it become cheaper? How does it connect to the PC? Is there an installation of a new line in the property necessary? Also, what was the motivation? Was it for work, multiplayer madness, or just quick browsing? I'm sure some of you work in a tech field so its more necessary, what about those that don't?
    Just wondering, thanks.

The price will vary, I pay $30 per month for cable access. I agree with Kit, I have done both and cable is better. Just to give you an idea of the download difference, When downloading the IWD expansion Trials of the Luremaster, It would have taken 2-3 hours with a standard ISP connection, with the cable access it took me 10 minutes. It is definately worth it.

well, i dont know im not about to get into an argument about dsl vs. cable since it depends on many things and there is no fucking point to discussing it! now that thats out of the way, my dsl is 400k speed, which is fast enough for me.

If you have a free phone line (and I mean extra wires) in your house you won't need a new one for DSL.

For both DSL and Cable, you will need special "modems", and they aren't the same and aren't interchangeable. I now have a spare DSL modem that I can't use.

For both cable and DSL you will need a 10BaseT or 100BaseTX Ethernet card (though my cable modem seems to have a USB connection as well).

Depending on what company you get DSL from, they will either install a splitter in your main phone box or give you filters to put on your outlets. I prefer the splitter myself.

they offer here.. a free ethernet card and modem and installation for cable. My hubby works for the cable company here selling @home. They have a great deal right now.. but really depends on where you are geographically.
