Any other tennis fans around these boards than me?

In any case the first grand slam of the year has just started and Roger Federer is once again on the hunt for the real grand slam conquering all the four crowns during this year. I'm myself a fan of Federer and his style of play and would like to see him win but I think this year will be a bit more difficult for him. I'm not all convinced that he's in his best possible having only the exhibition tournament at Kooyong behind him before the Australian Open.

So any predictions about the outcome of the first Grandslam of the year or other tennisrelated comments welcome. :)

The New Zealand Open just finished last week. David Ferrer beat Tommy Robredo in the men's final and Jelena Jankovic beat Vera Zvonareva in the women's final.

New Zealand's number one women's player, Marina Erakovic is now up to 153 in the world. Maybe she can make the top 100 one day, but she is already out of the Australian Open for this year.

I'm not a big fan of tennis. It's one of very few sports I just can't watch.

That's because you've busted your TV in frustration every time Tim Henman fails to live up to expectations.

He's the most boring of the lot. I didn't used to mind it when Sampras and Agassi were playing, but there's no way I can sit down and watch a full game. Same goes for F1. I can't watch that either.

The Australian Open is always a tricky tournament to predict as it is right in the beginning of the season, but I think unless Federer’ve decided to enjoy his life for a while and didn’t give enough attention to his training (I truly doubt though) He should hold the title again.

I would bet that he could easily win the US Open and Wimbledon, unless He falls for an injury.

The real challenge for Federer lies with the French Open. He got really close last year, but Nadal is still more confident and probably better than him on the clay.

I generally support him as I find his style of play very impressive.

Yeah I know, Finlands Jarkko Nieminen won the tournament in Auckland last year but he was in bad shape when defending the title and lost in the first round. Hopefully he'l enjoy modest success in the Australian Open allthough I think he will fall in the quarters at the very latest.

I'd like to watch tennis, but it doesn't air on the sports channel I have. And it always comes at weird times of day. So I'm out of luck... I'll just watch the highlights :(

There's a tennis open here at the moment  If it weren't for all the Croatians and Serbians beating the crap out of each other I'd have no idea.

Should be another walk in the park for Roger, unless the heat make some damage on him, but if he suffers, then the pack behind him will suffer double :p
I hope David Nalbandian beat at least Nadal, who can only play on clay.

Bloody Hewitt is through to the next round. I wish that he would hurry up and lose and retire. The only person the seems to still be a fan of his in Aus is my grandma which is really sad. And then the is friggin Mark Philopousus (or however you spell his last name) who is in a league of his own. The idiot still reckons that he has one last grand slam win in him but he really should have retired a few years ago.

As you can see, I have very little faith in the Australian tennis team. The only good players that we had in recent years were the Woodies

Too bad they split... Hewitt won a superb game. I kind of like him, but he seems to be like Henman: always a promise... :p

I've never actually seen Hewitt play (apart from the highlights on the news) but, I kayak past his house several times a week. He has a lot of security cameras :)
