Right. So anywho, my character, Koveras, is a Half-Elven Mage/Fighter. He dual-wields Axes only. Doesn't have proficiency in anything else. I can't remember his stats, but he has a Wisdom and Int at 18, with Strength at 19 due to bracers. Anyway, what are some good Axes to dual with?

Start with Stonefire (the fire ax purchased at Copper Coronet) and the Ice Ax (forgot what it's called) in D'Arnisse Keep. However, by far, the best ax in BGII is not in BGII:SoA *HINT* *HINT*, but in ToB. And since I can't talk about that here, I will leave you to find it by yourself.

Hmm, axes are generally considered a poor choice in SoA. You can obtain the best axes in the game very early, as noted before Stonefire and Frostreaver in the d'Arnise keep. It kinda disheartens me knowing that you will not improve on your weaponry anymore throught the game! Iirc, they are both +3 weapons so note that there will be things that you cannot hit. Axes do not have the versatility of long or 2-handed swords where you can switch between various weapons to ensure maximum efficiency in different situations...

I'm pretty sure it is doable, but... ah, if you could only dual-wield halberds...

I guess I'll be searching for new Axes on the net then. Sigh. I hate having to do this. I don't suppose somebody can point out a good starting place can they?

No, but remember that in whole SoA there is no axe with +4 or +5 enchantment. I'm serious.

Now this doesn't mean axes are poor weapons. The monsters that need more than +3 to be hit are rare in this game. Improvement in axes is not good only in case you're planning to play solo.

I can only presume that if you have a fighter/mage as your main character then you should have some heavy tank characters in your party anyway. They should dispatch those rare creatures which require 4 or more.

And i think dual axes is pretty good for not a pure fighter.

Extremist is right, there is no axe better than +3 in BG-2 SoA, and most of them are pretty good weapons. Eventually the IMO coolest weapons in BG-2 SoA are +2 only - and you get along splendidly using them all over the game.

But there is Azuredge (hint: from Copper Coronet), which is one of the best axes in SoA.

I downloaded the 2 files from Baldurdash that add 2 more merchants (Deidre in Ad.Mart and Jeluv in Coronet) but I did not check them for axes - dunno maybe that is a way to get a better axe?

Well, I've been driven to make an axe. Good on you all. I make no garauntee as to how useful this axe will be, I just want a good one. Here it is, give me your opinion.

    Elemental Axe

The origins of this weapon can only be traced back as far as a berserker warrior from an unknown land, who had never spoken his name, somewhere in the mists of time. He was a silent, fierce warrior, and nobody had ever even heard him speak, outside of a battlecry. In battle, he would send opponents into shock with the conflicting damages of this weapon, of fire and ice, of lightning and acid, of insidious poisons, of crippling darkness. One day, however, during the final stages of an epic defense of the holy city of Othos, where he had made his home, he fell in battle to a Greater Balor, his Axe falling to the ground beside his corpse, and the corpse of the Balor, which was killed in the warrior's final surge of hatred. The warrior was buried, and his axe put on display as the axe of the city's savior. One day, however, the axe slowly disappeared, to the amazement of onlookers. It is said to have been returned to it's owner so that they may once again combat the denizens of the nether realms together. Due to the owner's personal hatred of the little people and of Orcs, these two races cannot wield it. And over time, the secret of channeling the darker powers of poison and acid have been lost. Finally, the axe gives off an aura of hatred for anyone who is not it's owner, and thus, makes it uncomfortable to be around. The merchant who found the Elemental Axe once again, after thousands of years, was said to be unstoppable in defense of his store, but could find nobody who would buy his wares, and eventually threw it in a chasm, where he would no longer be bothered by it.
