It's the same song. Baba O'Reilly is more commonly referred to as Teenage Wasteland (as I found out in the Song Quote Game :D )

According to Wikipedia "Teenage wasteland" is a different but similar song with "Baba O'Reily". It is slower with more lyrics and a version of it is included in the "The lifehouse chronicles" CDs. However I remember that I've read somewhere that "Teenage wasteland" was the original title of "Baba O'Reily".

I have a vinyl copy of "Who's Next." I'm not sure when it was pressed because I received it second-hand (I used to collect old vinyls). But the date on the jacket is 1971. And the song in question is Track #1, and is simply titled "Baba O'Reily."

Chandos is correct, Baba O'Riley came first.

Well, if I may add to the confusion a bit, this is how I understand the story:

When Townsend was working on Lifehouse he made a song called Teenage Wasteland. This song included the lyrics of what we now know as Baba O'Riley and additional lyrics (what BOC said). I think this is it. This song later evolved into the Baba O'Riley we all know today, possibly with the abandoning of Lifehouse and turning it into Who's Next. So yes, it was originally called Teenage Wasteland, but it wasn't exactly the same song.
