Backstab ability?

    Greetings

    I started a new game not so long ago and am now up to the Shadow Thieves quest. After doing a job for Edwin, I returned to Mae'var's guild hall and killed the guy at the front desk by accident. Naturally everyone in the room would turn hostile but there wasn't anyone there. After a second or two, one of my guys just died there on the spot and after a while a thief appeared behind him.

    Is this the backstab ability, if so, how can I make my thief backstab or am I missing something here?

    Sneak behind the foe (I mean, you must be behind his back), then attack. You must be hidden in shadows or invisible (that is what the scums do - backstab and drink a potion of invisibility).

    More specifically, on your thief's toolbar there is a shadowed face... hit this button to attempt to hide in shadows. If you are successful, the dialog box will say so. If you fail the hide in shadows button will be inaccessible for a while.

    It is easier to hide... indoors or at night... when there are more shadows. Its nearly impossible to hide once combat has started.

    To backstab you must get behind the enemy you are going for, either invisible or hidden. I've found that you have to specifically direct your thief to attack the target, you can't just tell the the whole group to go for it. (Personally, I like to kill mages before their protections go up.) Once you strike you will be visible. You'll have to drink another invisibility potion to try again.

    Depending on the level and kit of your thief, your damage to the enemy will be multiplied 3-7x.

    [​IMG] I tried to get my familiar to pick pocket from the shopkeeper. He noticed. I got my PC to attack him as he turned hostile and he died after the first hit (pretty weak I guess). I was then possitioned directly behind my entire party. A shadow thief appeared in the doorway, I had the autopause turned on and the status bar showed that the shadow thief was about to attack my PC. My PC was killed first hit despite being at the back of the party.

    Also I have heared referances to "...the insta kill members in the thieves guilds".

    Oh...right. Then you are not supposed to wipe out Mae'Var yet? If so, then you have encountered the Insta-Kill dude. He instantly kills anyone who messes with the Shadow Thieves. YOU CANNOT OUTRUN THE INSTA-KILL DUDE!

    [​IMG] I think there infact a number of these insta kill dudes around who seam to take effect if you kill anyone in any of the theives guilds :)

    Have you guys extacted the sword and looked at it. It's totally wicked.
    1d8 +1000 slashing, piercing, blunt, fire, cold, acid, poison etc. or so. I can't remember it exactly here and now.
