Bad Foggy Spell Graphics

[IMG] I have IWD casting graphics for casting glows, it worked with no problem. Then I had a mod which improves some spell graphics too, like ABDHW and Death Fog's mists, and Cone of Cold's effect. It worked with no problem too, made the graphics more fluent, transparent, translucent and simply put, beautiful.

Then I got spell pack mod. It introduced new spells, from IWD-IWD2 series and also new and unique spells.

To get those spells, I needed to install spell casting graphics improvoment component. It makes all spells like IWD series.

Example:When you cast a Hold Person, Greater Malison or Chaos, you shoot a swirling globe of magical energy at the target, it explodes into tiny ones to affect enemies. Whilst in IWD series, such spells always come out of the area of effect instantly, like a magical spring. This component edits those spells to be like IWD ones. I thought neat. Then installed other spiffy spells, like Recitation, Elysum's tears etc. Fun!

Then I noticed the mod, for some reason, made my cloudy spells look extremely ugly. ie:The fog effects of ABDHW, Cloudkill, Death Fog. They have square, green nasty blocks around the sprites, they look bad, BUT it also really drops the visiuablity. I mean, after casting 8-10 ABDHW in a row, it becomes IMPOSSIBLE to watch the battle field, due to ugly, non-transparent and buggy-looking huge square blocks around the fog effect.

What do you think can cause this bug? Any solution? I really do not want to uninstall the mod. Then again, can I fix this via configuration? That spell brightening options I never seem to understand. What do you suggest?

Anyway, if I can't fix it, I guess I will rule that these are the natural effects of spells, to blur your vision and make the game harder, actually. FUN?

@silverstar: re-install? I can't really think of anything else that could help you at this point.

IMHO...looks like you messed your game up by installing too many mods...but then again, I'm not too informed about this sort of thing, so you could wait till the gurus like Andyr come by the forums! :p

No way. I will never re-install unless absolutely neccesary. Do you have any idea how long it will take to download and install all those mods I have? And how absolutely tedious it can be? I can not even make a complete list of my mods nowadays... I lost my count! :p

I can live with slightly bad graphics. And maybe this is another reason to avoid stacking multiple ABDHWs! Death to magery eh? :shake: (I am joking, ofcourse!)

I just got a HUGE laugh out of picturing you taking two days just to reinstall your 857 mods, SS :D

I don't have NEAR as many as you, and I'm still bummed because, even though I uninstalled it, Tortured Souls infected my Cromwell dialouge...he'll give me any of the stuff from Item Upgrade, but when I ask him to go through my pack and look for the Gessen Bow or the Red Dragon Scales, I get random TS dialogue.

I can't REALLY blame TS because I neglected to back up the Diag file like it SPECIFICALLY tells you to do in the Read Me...but it's still a pain. And to make matters worse, I tried to fix it myself with Near Infinity, but I guess I erased too much, because now the game crashes when I even talk to him. That'll teach me step outside my god-given limits. :p

So, unless I want to SK myself the Crom Fayer and Red Dragon Scale every game, I've got to start from scratch...after I finish my current run-through, of course.

Question: Why would you need to redownload all mods? A reinstall does not delete any mod folders (and if you're using anything but WeiDU mods, then there is something wrong with you).

Err...I did not know that. So if I uninstall BG2 (perish the thought), my mod folders will still be available for a new install? Will it cause any bugs?

Anyway, I am not thinking about doing it right now. It is a very small problem indeed. Plus I am %99 sure it will be gone if I just uninstalled the spell pack, because it caused the problems. But I like spell pack's cool additions. I can live with that. Thank you very much anyway!

^Thanks. I take this as a compliment.

I am proud of my mod-enhanced BG2 too. I think mine is the most unique and different BG2 game! And I love it! Really! I will not let such a minor problem spoil my fun! Righto?
