BGT is TC that brings all of the BG1 content into the BG2 engine, with the goal of being able to play from Candlekeep all the way through the end of ToB. It's a massive download (600 MB+), requires expansions for both BG1 and BG2, and still has some bugs.

If you're looking for a way to play BG1 in the BG2 engine, though, I would recommend Tutu. It's a smaller download, installs faster, requires neither expansion, and can be modded with both BG1 mods. It has some bugs as well, but is still actively supported.

What's the point of BGT anyway? 600MB for what? is it the same storyline? does it actully add anything to the game apart from what tutu offers?

Can you import a character from a tutu modded game into BGII? Otherwise that would be already an advantage.

    @ Meatdog
Yes, of course it's possible to import Tutu characters to BG2 :)

Hey, where can you get this? Seems like a cool idea, one I´d like to try out.

What´s 600MB? Nothing if you have over 1TB harddisk space :)

The only difference between BGT and Tutu (eventually) is that BGT does not require BG1 to be installed.

600MB is a pretty hefty download, even on broadband so that might sway your opinion somewhat.

BGT is impossible to get, so don't bother. Get Tutu.

BGT, as far as I've found, can only be gotten through FTP. Despite using Broadband, every time I've attempted to download it I've had a terrible speed - never more than 10kb/s. I'm not prepared to wait that long for it.

This has not been true for some time. BGT requires BG1 and TotSC.

As I understood it, didn't it require BG and TotSC to be present while installing, and afterwards aren't needed?

True--I just don't want folks to think you're somehow getting BG1 content for free, which is certainly not true. ;)

    Certainly better than 10k/s :)

    Hopefully it's worth it...

    Thanks for the link.
But are there really NO differances between BGT and Tutu? I have already tried Tutu, but I could complete BG1 with it installed. After I killed Sarevok the game froze every time.

And as said, getting 600mb aint a problem.
I haven´t been downloading anything, but my computer has been on for maybe two weeks anyway.
I gotta have music you know :)

That Sarevok freeze happened to me too, but all it means is that you miss the ending movie. If you uninstall Tutu you'll be able to import your character into SoA.

It may have been fixed, but the method seemed too complicated for me to bother.

I think BGT may have updated the area graphics for BG; that's why it's such a huge DL.

BGT also alters the storyline. You can no longer do any of the TotSC quests until *after* you've killed Sarevok. There have also been quite a few alterations made to various NPCs, espcially those that made a reappearance in BG2.

    OK, the blow-by-blow differences:
    • BGT requires BG1, TotSC, BG2, and ToB (though you can uninstall BG1 after BGT is installed); Tutu only requires BG1 and BG2 (expansions are optional, though BG1 must remain installed) .
    • BGT allows you to play BG1 all the way through the end of ToB continuously. Tutu has a program that must be run to toggle the installation between BG1 and BG2 content.
    • Tutu makes no storyline changes. BGT requires that you kill Sarevok before doing any of the TotSC content and alters both BG1 and BG2 with some other minor changes.
    • Tutu can be modded as the conversion process will also convert any mods you may have on BG1. BGT is vanilla BG1/TotSC and can not be modded. Both will accept BG2 mods.
    • BGT keeps character continuity. If you change one of your NPC's stats in BG1, they'll have it in BG2. You can bring characters into BG2 that are not already in BG2.
    • Tutu has better graphics. BGT's size come from the fact that it distributes the area graphics in compressed form whereas Tutu converts them directly from BG1. BGT's compresion also reduces the quality of the area graphics ingame.
    • Tutu is easier to download and install. Tutu is a minimal download and installs in a few minutes. BGT is a huge download (600MB+) and takes closer to 45-60 minutes for the install process.
    • Tutu has more active suport. BGT's original creator withdrew from the project and support is now being handled by someone else. Tutu is still being maintained by its creator.
There are also some folks working on a mod for Tutu that will bring some of BGT's advantages into Tutu, such as the continuous NPCs.

BTW, for those that are having the crash in the movie after killing Sarevok with Tutu, Caswallon just posted a fix for it over on the Tutu boards.

There are additions to BGT done by Horred, as part of the Big Picture.

Yes, there's truly nothing like having to download ANOTHER 600 megabytes of mod to get your first 600 megabytes of mod to work.
