This is one of the most hilarious posts I've read in a while...but I'm really happy for you, Barmy.

Care to tell what it's about... :p

Banglasesh (the whipping boys of the cricket world, never ever win, always lose badly) beat Australia (supposedly the worlds best cricket side by a mile) in a One Day International cricket match. It's unheard of.

You like football don't you? Put it on a scale of Iran beating Brazil in the world cup, and then double that scale  .

It's one of the biggest upsets in cricket history.

One of, but not the biggest, as some commentators seem to be fond of saying. There are a couple of examples of non-test countries beating big guns in World Cup games which were huger.

Barmy will be even more happy with the result this morning. I got up at 4am to watch the end of the England v Australia game. I thought England were gone for all money until Barmy's mate Pietersen smashed a winning knock. Some of the Australian bowlers are looking pretty tired.

Unheard of. I wish I'd put some money down on Australia losing both games this weekend. I'd be rich.

Yes Harbs, I'm a very happy bunny!
What is more pleasing is that the Aussies actually played good cricket today.
What did I tlll you about Pietersen though? He just relishes the big stage. Have you ever seen such an aggressive, attacking, big hitting guy in an England shirt in recent history? Flintoff aside obviously! (who actually isn't as good a batsman as Pietersen in my opinion, because he lacks the ability of carrying on starts and posting massive scores).

I don't see how the selectors can leave him out of the Ashes now. But, it's a question of where to put him and who to get rid of! It's a very nice problem to have at least.

What is Solanki doing batting at number 8? Isn't he an opener?

PS How come you haven't posted in the Lions thread lately?

Australia beaten by Bangladesh. Can you imagine the furore if *we* lost to them, let alone Oz???

We have better openers than Solanki in Strauss and Tresco. Anyway, he usually comes in in the middle order rather than the tail. The batting order was allover the place this match for some reason (Collingwood at 4??).
To be honest, if I had my way, I'd dump Solanki and bring in another specialist bowler, probably Tremlett, he is a serious talent.

Oh, rugby union isn't at the the top of my priorities when cricket is on ;) . Maybe I'll post when we start playing against the big boys and 'Sir' Clive settles on his side and stops pissing around. Oh, and the games are on at silly tims for me as well, so I rarely get to see them.

Back to cricket. Australia's problems run quite deep. Their top order is being TOO gung-ho, Ponting's captaincy has been appalling, Kasprowicz and Gillespie look insipid (though not helped by their captain's baffling field placings), Brad Hogg will get taken apart on wickets which aren't as slow as Bristol, so will Shane Watson (loved him trying to intimidate Flintoff.
McGrath, I thought, bowled really well today but as was mentioned in commentary, he can't carry the attack on his own.

Be cautious re the ashes. Justin Langer, Brett Lee and Shane Warne will add significantly to their side whilst Gillespie has always preferred the longer form of the game. Their side is settled for tests whereas we still have a few question marks - how do we fit Pietersen in? Will Pietersen and Bell be good enough? Will Giles be fit?

The aussies will bounce back, we have to be ready for that.

I think you have to play Pietersen in the tests. He is clearly a technically skilled batsman, not just a basher. This is the first I time I have actually watched a whole innings of his. Re the tests, Justin Langer is so underrated and he is familiar with the English conditions.

Also note, that in their recent tour here, Gilchrist had a shocker in the one day series then proceeded to smash match-turning innings in every test.

Once again though, I'll say this is the best English team I have ever seen so the series should be one to watch.

And Barmy, I thought you were a real sports fan. Surely you can follow several sports at once!

Hey, come on, surely I can be allowed some cricket concentration, we're beating the Aussies for one  .
Obviously the Aussies are still the favourites for the Ashes, but surely a little celebrating is called for? ;) .

So much sport on today! Ooh, what about the golf??! Michael Campbell just held out Tiger Woods in the US Open to become the first New Zealander since Bob Charles back in the 1960s to win a major. This will even bump the Lions off the front page for the rest of the week over here.

I actually watched the US Open tonight. A good tournament I would say and I am happy with the winner, I thought Goosen would have cruised through after his astonishing performance yesterday but he played a horrible round and ended up somewhere around +10. Anyway that's all I have to contribute to this thread. You guys can go on and speak about the silly game of sticks you guys play over there. We real sportsexperts know that Finnish Baseball (not the same as the stupid American game) is the real thing. And no, the fact that you two have never heard of the sport does not make it bad in fact I believe it to be quite the opposite. :p

Morgoroth - if such a sport indeed exists (I can't tell if you are joking or not) then I'm sure it is great. I'm not in the business of bagging other sports. For me there are the sports that I follow closely, and then there are other sports. All sports are great if you get a chance to sit down and learn about them and follow your favourite players / teams.

But back on topic, I read that one bookmaker was giving Bangladesh 500-1 odds of beating Australia. That's amazing stuff, if true.

And I heard that there was an Aussie who put £7500 on his team to win at 1-100, even though he'd only expect a £75 return... now there's the unhappiest man in Oz! :shake:

Truly, gambling is a mug's game...

Of course such sport exists! It's our national sport. It's less popular than it used to be though and there are not that many professional players in Finnish baseball anymore. It's mostly played in the more rural parts of Finland. None of the bigger cities have a team in the top league, which explains it's unpopularity in those areas somewhat. I'm not a very big fan of the sport though but I find it fun to watch occationally, and if the team from my hometown reaches the finals I try to be there to watch the game. ;)

    Finally Harbs ;) .

Bit worried about the Aussies seemingly having Trescos and Strauss sussed though...

The Aussie bowlers are smart and spend a lot of time doing their homework on key opposition batsmen. It's up to your boys to keep evolving and learning as well. Anyway, there's rugby to focus on today.....

My local paper wrote the game off as 'not worth watching' the day before the match. I suppose everyone was wrong. I think it just proves that Ponting has spent too long with the team from
    Ricky Ponting International Cricket.
