The "treasure chests" in beholder lairs are so hard to find. Both in the Unseeing Eye quest and the Beholder City in Chapter 5. Most of them contain minor goodies, but still, I'd like to locate all of them.

I don't know if I've found them all, which is what I want to ask you guys. Does anyone know how many searchable "containers" are there in those two beholder lairs?

[IMG] If you thought the beholders were a pain in the butt...

The Hilt of the Equalizer is in the Mind Flayer City in the Underdark. Just remember to use the spell Chaotic Commands on your characters or your brains will be eaten! :D

Wearing the cloak of Reflection and summoning tons of helpers should allow you to kill all the beholders -- once they're dead, take your time and look around!

Why make myself go round the twist to stop my brain getting eaten, BTW has anyone tried laying traps in your cell in illithid world then hiding in the githyanki cell and seeing if the ogre dies and allows you to escape? oh and where abouts is that hilt Exactly!

Traps are only triggered by hostile/red circled opponents (hence the old "Hi Mr. Dragon please wait a minute while I set up a circle of deathtraps while you stand there and watch" ploy)and you can not make the ogre go hostile until after the escape from the arena so no your idea will not work. You might be able set the traps up and have them go off after the escape but it hardly seems worth the effort to whack one ogre.

Blackhawk's said where the hilt is.

The pommel stone is in Irenicus' dungeon. You probaby wouldn't have missed (as in not spied) it.

The hilt is on one of the tables just outside your cell.

A bit :yot: since this is supposed to be about the treasure in the beholder lair, but oh well.

Killing illithids uses the same strategy as killing any mind flayer.

    1. Make sure Chaotic Commands has been cast on each character. This will prevent a majority of the charm-like abilities they'll throw your way.

    2. Ranged fighting works well but melee is the faster way to get rid of them.

    3. If you can avoid it, do not try to take on more than one or two at a time. Remember that each time they score a physical hit on you, there is a chance for intelligence drain (similar to level drain from vampires). In groups, these buggers are a challenge.

    4. If your characters have low intelligence (Minsc comes to mind), have them drink potions of genius to temporarily raise their intelligence to 25. If they get hit, the drain comes from the temporary increase and not their "true" intelligence.

    5. They are very magic resistant so many area-type spells (fireball, death fog, etc) will normally not affect them. Umber hulks, which are usually seen in the company of mind flayers, are very vulnerable to area-type or cloud spells. One such spell will normally wipe out all the umber hulks around.
