I was just wondering what everyone's favorite battles were. Also if you want to describe how you beat it, that might be cool too. I think spam should be ok here (so long as the rest of us can at least see how you got from A to B) because I like for topics to evolve like real conversations. Personally, my favorite so far is the improved Abizigal. This fight is so cool but, and this is extremely unique among the Weimer mods I've played, it isn't just a bunch of cheese and cheapness. Abizigal has only one imprisonment which I think is perfectly reasonable for a Bhaalspawn dragon (although I can't say the same for the random liches and mages throughout tactics  ) and having the other dragon and wyverns running around just makes it such an awesome battle. Personally I thought it was much, much easier than Firkraag. This wasn't because I was higher level, its because Abizigal doesn't use wing buffet four times a round. My bad boys were mostly melee fighters at that time and not being able to get within 20 feet of Firkraag was really annoying  . Whatever Weimer did to wing buffet, it sucks and the dragons could have been made much more interesting without resorting to complete lameness.

That is probably because Improved Abazigal isn't a Weimer mod. It was made by David Gaider.

I personally don't care for anything of weimer's, and he's about the only modder other than myself that I can think of that has done fight/AI enhancements.

I liked the Yaga-Shura fight becuase it was one of the only fights where you truly have to watch your flanks for spawning critters. so you cant just use your spellcaster as ranged attackers bombing Yaga-Shura himself, I find that you have to use them to keep the spawning critters away from your tanks.
The best method for this battle that i have found is using a thief to backstab Yaga-Shura while he is busy with a tank and have everyone else fighting all of the other critters.

I like using invisible blockers to hold back illithids while my archers/2-handed weapon wielders attack. :D

Speaking of using 2-handed weapons, I like using doorways/pathways to trap large/huge sized enemies. The demon in the Celestial Fury house is my fave to use this method on.

super duper tactic... first time I faced illithids (way back when...) this was the only way I managed to get through the illithid layer in the ud.

this is one of the easiest ways of beating abazigal too, there's a rock formation which he can follow you into while in the human form, but which he cant get out of in the dragon form.

MY FAVOURITE FIGHT... has got to be improved ilyich from tactics... it's just too bad I have to abuse ai all the time.. (always always always lure ilyich away first, unless ofcourse you wana use yocheesemo and kill them with traps)

I always enjoy taking my solo characters straight to mencar pebblecrusher and company as soon as I'm out of Irenicus' dungeon and have done the circus tent quest. There is never anything crazy or spectacular, but I just like it because it is about the only fight in the game that I generally need to use actual strategy to win. From then on the game gets progressively easier and easier if you have played it a couple times and know your way around.

That probably explains why I am having such a hard time getting immersed into any run throughs recently... and I have only beaten the game twice! I can't imagine how you guys with 15+ full run-throughs under your belt manage to still have fun in an unmodded game... there is no challenge whatsoever! Especially since I'm not the type who is willing to deliberately hamper my characters to make the game harder.

Which brings me to an aside: I never knew there were other mods than tactics that increase the difficulty of SoA!!!!! What are they and where can they be found!?!? I too find tactics to be more of a "cheese increasing" rather than "difficulty increasing" mod... I'm interested in alternatives!

Oversight Sendai on insane. Now that is a fight. Her four project images keep killing you and they are all immune to divination. I turned my entire party invisible for 20 rounds, and they were unsummoned; but meanwhile, an army of elite drow warriors (GWW and hardiness) and apprentis (they cast Comets!) keep spawning FAST.

Real Sendai immediately stops time and assaults your people with Harm, Immy's Spell trap saves the day, and my Druidic Sorcerer killed all in a Timestop+Imp.Alacrity and his special magical tricks which make everybody vulnerable to magic, a few pierce shields, ruby rays, breaches, remove magics; and rain down 6 comets (which also ignore MR) and I was rewarded with flying chunks of drow meat, as all were chunkified! That was cool beyond words, the ultimate destruction! I loved it!

My favorite fight: The Endurance test on the lowest level of WK. Slaughtering endless waves of low-level enemies really makes my day.

Ah yes, that test in WK, with Spirit Warrior, it is cool, it has the taste of old RPG games, or even P&P style. I still love it even though it is no longer challenging for me.

What about your most hated fight? Ilyich isn't so bad once you learn one very handy trick: Enchant Weapon. The only reason that this fight is hard is that several of the enemies cannot be touched with the +1 weapons you find around the place. Once you can hit them, the fight is much easier. The fight I hated the most was (this is without having complete ascension) improved Irenicus. That dragon brought me so close to taking my computer and throwing it out into traffic. 360 degree wingbuffet, wingbuffet, wingbuffet, level drain, wingbuffet. And Wraith of Wrath is all but impossible to hit. My barbarian had something like -8 thaco and still almost never hit him. And the fight seems to never end. A three part fight? Could this BE more unbalanced? I also didn't like the Yaga Shura battle on ascension because I didn't know you have to leave to find him again and I stood around for about 7 minutes (all my buffs have worn out by now) waiting for him to reappear.

Me too! But before the circus tent! That's one tough fight! Have to love it!

Then there's those guys with the boomerang dagger as well, Mercenaries of Riativin (?), they're pretty tough too in the beginning!

But what I really hate is the Improved Yaga-Shura, since it tends to crash my game all the time.

Twisted Rune my first time through. Minsc had the Improved Mace of Disruption and the Shield of Balduran. My cavalier (Gladimir) had Carsomyr and Azuredge. We had not gone through the underdark yet (Chapter 3 and everyone was 12-14 level).

Shangular teleported to us and was dead in seconds (IMoD or Azuredge -- can't remember which). Minsc led out and was targetted by the beholder while Gladimir rushed in with Carsomyr. A few hits and it was over. In the meantime, the vampire and fighter closed on Minsc. A critical hit on the vampire killed it in one hit with IMoD and a stoneskinned Jaheira helped finish off the fighter. Meanwhile, Gladimir circled around and confronted Layene -- she naturally gated in a Pit Fiend. The pit fiend was killed in a single hit by Gladimir (that was really cool). Carsomyr quickly dismantled the protections on Layene and she died after only getting off one horrid wilting spell (which the Belt of Inertial Barrier helped reduce damage from).

A solo cleric/thief has been my best dragon slayer. Thaxll'ssyllia went down after setting two normal snares and a spike trap nearby. The C/T cast Implosion on the shadow dragon, Thaxll'ssyllia went hostile, set off the traps and died. Firkraag was just as easy, the C/T set one normal trap, buffed up with every possible spell to improve her 'to hit' and then cast Harm. Once again, dead dragon.

Imoen proved really fun during the final battle. She alone cleared the last pool (wearing the Amulet of Power and Robe of Vecna). Improved Alacrity, Time Stop, horrid wiltings, skull traps, and a delayed blast fireball -- only the two mariliths survived (and they were near dead). The fallen solar, succubi, everyone else ... dead. Another horrid wilting and the Mariliths went down.

The very first fight in BG1: My paladin charged the ogre and promptly 'crushed to goo.' Quite funny.

Going to be really obvious here.

Kangaxx - always a real challenge once he gets to DL form. As a Lich no real probs but DL's are bloody annoying. Always satisfying when you get a big win!

Twisted Rune - Very hard as a 6-group party, but the times when i have solo'd I must adnit it was a lot easier, although always hairy. With a solo mage (+other class) I tend to cast a damage spell, shug a invis potion and move to safety, keep doing that until you feel comfy enough to hit one. Oh and make sure you are wearing the non-detection cloak (a god-send).
