With the Oscars just around the corner, I thought it might be time to wrap up our views on 2003 at the movies with our own Best Picture opinions. I'm sure they will be different to the Academy's view.

My 5 Best Films of 2003 are:
    1) The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
    2) Whale Rider
    3) The Matrix Reloaded
    4) 25th Hour
    5) Punch Drunk Love

    What are yours?

PS For anybody who is interested, my complete 2003 list can be found here.

"Catch Me If You Can", "Gangs of New York" and "Punch Drunk Love" were all 2002 films.

    1. Lord of the Rings: Return of the King.
    2. Finding Nemo
    3. Mystic River
    4. Pirates of the Carribean: Curse of the Black Pearl
    5. Lost in Translation

Sadly, neither of the Matrix films would make my top 20!

You notice how many movies this year have "colons" in the title?

I know, but I based my 2003 list on films that I personally saw at the cinemas in 2003. They may have been released in the USA in 2002 but not necessarily in other parts of the world.

Yeah, Stephen Fry made quite a funny 'colon' joke at the BAFTAs this year, based on that very observation, Slash.

It´s impossible to rate the top 5 movies for me.
It all depends on my mood and what I wanna see at the moment.

Although, Pirates of the Carribean and LotR RotK are two great movies.
Probably on my top 10 list of all times.

    1) Lord Of The Rings: Return Of The King
    2) Kill Bill Volume 1
    3) X-Men 2
    4) Hulk
    5) Daredevil

Last year was actually a pretty slow cinema year for me, with the above 5 being the only "must-see" that were released here last year. Had The Last Samurai been out a few weeks earlier here, it would have taken top spot.

I didn't watch a single new film in 2003, so my choice will have to be from my DVDs :) That would be Monty Python and the Holy Grail
