Well, a sorceror is definitely in the running in any powergaming party, anyway.

Off the top of my head, I'd say:

    Cleric/Ranger (multi)
    Sorceror
    Fighter/Thief (multi)

You really don't need more than those three. Since you want an Inquisitor, toss it in. Perhaps a Fighter/Mage (dual) would round things out? Not that it really matters, the three characters I mentioned are easily among the most powerful in the game. I think the other mainstream power-gaming character types are Berserker/Cleric (dual) and Fighter/Mage (multi), which are extremely strong, but they're kind of redundant given the Ranger/Cleric and the Fighter/Thief+Sorcerer.

If you keep yourself at a max of five characters, with few (if any) mods installed, you'll have around 7million experience at the end of ToB (not counting experience exploits), so multiclass characters definitely have the upper hand.

i would do an assasin/fighter, or better yet a kensai/thief dualed at lvl 21 for ultimate power!!

    otherwise your party seems super

I would say what Zenastin said, with a this modification:

    Cleric/Ranger
    Sorcerer
    Fighter/Thief
    Inquisitor (what you wanted)
Monk (if you like powergaming, this is it)

Also, if you do go with a Monk (highly recommended), download Unfinished Business and Oversight mods; they restore lost content, specifically, monk high-level abilities. Otherwise you'll just get fighter HLA's, which are good, but the monk has a powerful and unique set.

If you'd still like to maintain the role-playing feel of the game, and still get all the extra content/quests associated with the NPC's, I would consider using Shadowkeeper to modify your NPC characters in the following ways (these all assume you'll take change these characters this way if you don't fill that particular class with your PC:

    Cleric/Ranger: Jahiera
Sorcerer: Kelsey (no change), Imoen, Nalia, Aerie or Viconia
    Fighter/Thief: Valygar or Mazzy
Inquisitor: Keldorn (no change) or Anomen
    Monk: Cernd

I tried to pick NPC's that could feasibly fill the role of said class and still make it sound believable. It would kind of kill the magic for you if Aerie went headlong into a Berserker rage or if Minsc cast high-level mage spells. ;)

Also - if you want to take on a sixth character (I would), go with something that gives you the ability to cast mage spells, as a secondary caster is a boon in many situations. Try a fighter/mage as recommended above, or make a gnomish Illusionist/Fighter. To make it an NPC, change Jan. Some minor stat edits will be necessary if he's to be of any use, however.

    @ Gastong,

I know - that's what I'm saying - EDIT the existing NPC's into whatever you want using Shadowkeeper so you don't miss out on all the extra content of the game that comes with having NPCs in your party. You can edit their stats to whatever you want, too - so you're still powergaming.
