i'm planning to start a party where i will create my whole party...
    paladin(undead hunter)
    mage(conjurer)
    cleric(lathander)
    druid (avenger)
    thief (bounty hunter)
    ranger (?)

i'm not sure which ranger kit to chose and which racial enemy? any ideas?

I play the stock ranger kit with Vampire as the racial enemy. I did not find any of the subkits to be that useful.
    And Vampire just made sense...

Choose a stalker. They make decent tanks and your bountyhunter can support him/her when you decide to go a backstabbing. Also they can support your party with hastes and such. Make it an elf and for racial enemy go for vampires or golems.

I agree with the straight Ranger and/or Stalker kit, But I'd go with Mind Flayers for your racial enemy. You'll need all the help you can get with those tough little bastards.

[IMG] From your other choices it appears that you really want a Ranger kit and not a normal Ranger.

Like Tyresian my vote goes for a Stalker.
Vampires are a good - if typical - racial enemy since early on they cause problems. Consider specializing in Katana or Long Sword since your party has no other character who can effectively use those weapons.
Golems as racial enemy sound good too - I haven't tried that and if you go that way you should probably pick weapon accordingly - flail, club or warhammer - to get to the annoying Clay golems.

I just have to ask: why a Bounty Hunter?
That kit runs a fine line between beeing cheesy and setting the occasional ambush. The setting of ambushes (traps) can get tiresome. If you care about making it look real you'd want to scout out the enemy, go back and set a few traps and then lure them into it. The assassin is my favorite thief kit. He still gets sufficient thief points, backstabs and the poison comes in handy from time to time against spellcasters. I do think a thief should be dual classed or multiclassed though. Can't stand the wasted potential! :D

If you aren't into backstabbing, and use summoned creatures on the front line(assuming your cleric isn't tanking), the archer is a fun kit. You don't get to do much with your two weapon style points (It is too awkward to switch between bow and two weapons) but you can get off a lot of arrows in a round.

An elven archer with Tanseron's short bow and shadow dragon scale. An awesome combination! I would try it!

I'd choose an archer, since it looks like you won't have a ranged char, exept if you don't equip your thief with a bow, but that means that you can't backstab (you cannot stab with a bow! :))

I think you forgot the mage my dear one-post-up-fellow. He can cast spells at distances as well as get darts and trowingdaggers etc.

No wonder my party keeps getting wiped out.. I thought mages were melee fighters and that their low combat abilities are a tradeoff for their pretty robes.

Yup - when your ranger hits the XP cap, (without TOB that is) he will be able to cast 3 lvl 1 priest spells, 3 lvl 2 and 3 lvl 3 spells.

Beastmasters aren't THAT bad. I found that rangers can use the +4 staff the only druids can use(staff of woodlands or something?) but until you get it(near the end of the game) you have to use crappy weapons. But a beastmaster would be plausible in ToB since the staff of woodlands is pretty good.(gotta love them shambling mounds)

Beastmasters are cool...go with dual wield club or staff. You can get the staff of the Ryn +4 pretty early in the game. Also, you get a pet...just look at your special abilities.

WTF are you talking about?? Bounty hunters have their awesome trap setting ability at only the cost of 5 skill points per level. Assassins have poison weapons and the capability to have x7 backstab damage and get 10 skill points less than normal thieves. There is nothing wrong with the bounty hunter

  19. Melkhior Guest

Yeah, but they have a less amount of points to put on thief-skills when they lv.up! And those points are the most important thing ( ehmm.. almost... ) When playing as a thief ..

But they get enough points to raise all the important abilities(find traps, pick locks...etc) to 100. Anything above 100 is usually useless.
