We discussed this two days earlier... Take the Assasin I would say...

  3. [IMG] Yep, assassin. But this is going to be hard. I'm playing a fighter/assassin and sorcerer team and here are some tips.

    1. You will be playing an evil character. If you can't RP an evil character, then the assassin is not for you.
    2. Since you are not dualing, use non-human race bonuses to your advantage. I dualed, starting with thief. Lower hit points, but higher thac0.
    3. Sacrifice pickpocket and traps and focus on hide in shadows. You can get rings and boots to increase other skills, cloak to make you undetectable. But if you can't hide in shadows, you miss that big backstab. You MUST have stats to make that happen.
    4. Shortbow and Katana are your likely weapons of choice. Get CF, Backstab with it(if you can get it! that will be hard!) and you are ready. Clean out slavers at CC and get the little bow from the beastmaster.
Rate of Fire is very important with your bow, since you have poison for a certain period of time, not certain number of shots. So the poison damage can multiply remarkably vs. a long bow or vs. crossbow.
    5. AC is a problem. Use whatever amulet will give you the best boost. Leave cloak slot open for non-detection.
    6. You are probably going to use boots of speed when you get them; you are going to be overwhelmed with numbers in some scenarios, and stringing out your enemies will be the only way you'll make it through Underdark.

It's not going to be easy. Lots of reloads. But go ahead and play on a nice high level, at least core rules. Since you are not memorizing spells (that really stinks when you don't learn spells), playing higher difficulty isn't such a big deal.

I have a question about find trap

What % do you need to fin them all
    ???

You can dual class in a kit but only the first class can be one.
    example: Berserker/Theif
    Kensai/Mage
    Assasin/Fighter
But you can not multiclass with kits apart from the gnome who can be a illusionist/theif which is sort of a kit.

In answer to the second question: The best % to have is about 90 to 100 as this will disarm almost any trap. I always have exactly 100 in everything so then the theif is able to be expert in all abilities.
People say things like sometimes at 100 they don't work first time or they fail to hide but this is rare and there is no point upping above 100 because in my experience it makes no difference.
REMEMBER. If you don't disarm a trap or pick a lock first time then it sometimes pays to try several times more. (works occasionally)

Probably the easyest way to solo will be a bounty hunter, but DON'T DO IT.
If you're looking fot a challange, use the assasin. You'll need big hide in shadows, and open locks from the beginning. IMO the best race would be elf, since they get one x-tra point in dex.

With trap-detection it's not true that 100% let you detect all traps for there are 2 things: That you detect the trap and the time. When I remember the AD&D rules correctly, 100% says you detect all traps within 10 seconds (so you still step into a trap when you walk to fast :)) I think everything above 100% reduces the maximum time in wich you find any trap.

i'd say best race would be halfling because they get the 19 dex and extra points in all the thief abilaties

Indeed. The Hlafling is maybe even better. They have Constitution of 18 instead of an elf. De strength-penalty of the Halfling isn't a problem for you can easily raise the strength with a girdle and that's not possible with constitution.

I usually go for 130-140 in trap finding. As Headbanger said trapfinding time is decreased. This means my thief finds them ahead of the group before we walk into them.

A low Trapfinding means that I actually must know where the traps are, because I takes so Bloody long time to find them. And I can't disarm them either.

This brings me to a subquestion: I like to keep my sister (Imoen) in the party. (yes yes I am going soft :p ) But Her passive class (thief) stop at 40000 xp. Thats a shame. Why couldn't she just continue to the xp-caps of BG1 or TOTSC? I find most of her skills useless. Am I the Only one? Well Tough luck for me :D I just consider her an Advanced mage and tries to have Another thief in the group ;)

    EDITED HERE:
When wearing armor it can pay off to have more than 100 in Hide in shadows and Move silently as armours give penaltie, or Am I rambling on with my PnP rules again

[IMG] If you use studded leather, your skills lower a bit, right? So that Shadow thief leather +25 to hide in shadows is actually only +10 or so? Or is it specialy designed so there isnt a penalty?
