    [​IMG] HEY! I just thought "What is the best value spell around?" But, it has to be only from level 1 to 3 and it can be divine or arcane. I personally think that barkskin rocks :) and mirror image saves ur arcane spellcaster's ass most of the time :)So, what do you think guys? Send in your votes! :)

    Both Mirror Image and Invisibility are very useful spells.

    Skull Trap is pretty cool at higher levels, but equally as useful as Mirror Image, IMO. Mirror Image allows a spellcaster to get off several other spells (before getting hit) which in total might cause more damage than Skull Trap.

    Invisibility is OK but becomes redundant with Improved Invisibility later on so doesn't get used much after that.

    Improved Invisibility is level 4. From 1-3, I choose:

    1. Shield
    2. Mirror Image
    3. Fireball
    4. Chromatic orb

    Web and Aggannazzar's Scorcher, especially in conjuction, have saved my paladin/wizard many a time, too.

    Also, stat-increasing spells from level 2 rank are nice on higher levels. You can practically wear them all the time ;)

    Mirror Image is almost vital for a mage-type character - so would be at #1.

    Other good-value spells in no particular order:
    Shield - +7AC and immunity ro magic/force missiles

    Barkskin - Long lasting generic AC bonus

    Skull Trap - No cap! Beats magic resistance!

    Web - Poor man's insect plague; disables spellcasters (most of the time)

    Chromatic Orb - Poor man's stun, great against spellcasters

    Can someone PLEASE give me a reason why FireBall is better that Skull Trap? The FireBall have a cap, gets stopped by magic resistance and deals fire damage that more creatures are resistant to compared to slashing damage.


    BTW, just imaginge how powerful a Skull Trap would've been with the feet maximize damage. :grin:

    Skull Trap definitely gets better than Fireball with each level that goes by.

    Well, you can maximise skull trap damage by using luck. Get Ned's Lucky Nucky and cast the level 2 spell "luck" to get a total of luck +3. Damage is now 4-6 per caster level rather than 1-6. Wear tymora's loop as well to get 6 x caster level damage with every skull trap!

    Also like you said, I find skull trap much better than fireball despite the latter's larger blast radius.

    @Tassadar: I remember reading a rather extensive discussion in some other thread on this forum about this, and I believe the general consensus was that it affects attack rolls, effectively boosting your critical hit range, but doesn't necessarily affect your spell rolls, which I think (NOT sure about this at all) Hojo Jojo or Chevalier verified through the display of dice rolls.
