BG Tutu doesn't like his big brother...

[IMG] A major problem occured to me this morning, while trying out the infamous EasyTutu I kept hearing about. It seems to me that BGTutu hates his brother with a passion and won't let go.

In resume, I downloaded EasyTutu and grabbed a few mods I wanted to have along for the trip, and then I started to uninstall BG1Tutu. I'd done it before, and it reverted perfectly.

So I just ran BG1tutu_restore.exe without thinking and installed EasyTutu and its mods in a separate, different directory as it should. Piece of cake. I messed around a bit with my new F/M/T, and wanted to test something in ToB, so I loaded up the CD and gave the original BG2 folder a shot.

Imagine my surprise when I'm greeted by the familiar "Play Baldur's Gate with the enhancements introduced by the Baldur's Gate II version of the engine" screen.

At this point I re-run BG1tutu_restore.exe, thinking I might've forgotten something, and repeat the process. Same result.

Now, I knew BG1Tutu was hard to install, but I've never heard of a BG1Tutu that's hard to uninstall.

    Any help on this one?

Easy tutu sets up a second install. Are you trying to play ToB off the first install or the second?

Sorry for not being too clear - I meant to say that I'm trying to play BG2 in my original BG2/ToB folder *after* running BG1Tutu_restore.exe. The EasyTutu folder is working perfectly as it should.

That is actually a straight up Tutu problem. Try this......copy the files in the backup directory of your tutu folder back to your baldur's gate folder. That should restore everything back to normal.

    Hello -

Infamous? That's not quite the moniker I was shooting for. And I wouldn't say that EasyTutu is a brother to Tutu...more like an annoying cousin. :)

I can assure you that EasyTutu had nothing to do with this. It doesn't write so much as a single byte to either of your BG installations.

If the restore has failed for some reason, I'd abandon ship immediately: uninstall BG2, delete BG2 folder, reinstall and patch. Then you can be sure that your BG2 install is back to normal. Make sure that you reinstall from the same CD drive and to the same folder as before, so that EasyTutu can find BG2 resources it might need (if you reinstall differently, then the EasyTutu baldur.ini will require editing).

Thank you for the replies, Drew and Macready. I'll try re-installing the whole thing, although I consider it somewhat of a last resort.

By the way, will EasyTutu work independantly in the instance that BG2 has been uninstalled? Or will I need to immediately re-install it for the components to work?

On a slightly off-topic note, if I play EasyTutu with mods (having installed them in the EasyTutu directory after the successful installation), do I need to install those same mods to my BG2 directory for the export/import to work correctly?

    Hello -

Well, I can't really give advice about reverting regular Tutu. I always used a cloned install for it, and would just delete the cloned folder when I was done -- hence my reinstall suggestion.

That's a good question. I'm a little fuzzy on that issue myself. :) EasyTutu was designed specifically to be independent of your BG1 installation, so that BG1 could be uninstalled. My GUESS would be that it will function independently of your BG2 installation, because it cloned the really important bits during installation. It didn't clone BG2 content resources (the CD2, CD3, CD4, CD5 folders). I do know that the EasyTutu baldur.ini still has line entries for those folders, though.

So what will happen if you uninstall BG2 and run EasyTutu? The worst that can happen is an error message; and it would be an error that could easily be fixed by reinstalling BG2 to the same folder it was in previously. If you feel like a little trailblazing, take EasyTutu for a spin sans BG2 and report back your results.

Do you mean so that your character can be imported into BG2? No -- I've already done a test import of my current Tutu game (modded) into BG2 (still a virgin install) with no problem whatsoever. Just import from your final Tutu savegame, and use whatever mods you like on the BG2 side. Do remember to import from the save, and not from a .CHR file -- in my experience importing from a .CHR means items won't carry over (e.g., pantaloons).
