    Party is =
Haer'Dalis, Aerie, Anomen (CHARNAME romance), Nalia (mage), Mazzy - and what should I pick for my CHARNAME character?

    Alternatively
Haer'Dalis, Aerie, Anomen, Jan Jensen (thief/second mage), Mazzy - same question
    OR
Haer'Dalis, Aerie, Anomen, Mazzy, Yoshimo(thief dualed to fighter, ye or no?) - same question

ETA: it's either pure thief or pure mage or thief/mage for protagonist. It also make some characters like Nalia, Yoshimo or Jan less useful than they should be, so it may be five person party. What would you choose if you are in my spot?

I think you are really weak on warrior classes. Out of what you have included, your front line fighters are Mazzy and Anomen. Anomen only goes up as a cleric and I've never loved Mazzy as a tank.

If you want to be a caster party, that's fine, but a lot of fights are going to be harder than they should be unless you feel like resting all the time. If you really want to keep them all and really want CHARNAME to be a thief or mage, then at least make the protagonist a fighter/thief with focus on hide and move silently so you can start a number of fights with a backstab.

I agree, some kind of fighter would be more useful. Or you could just swap Anomen for Jaheira, HD/Jaheira should be enough to cover the frontlines thanks to Iron/Stoneskins and summons while Nalia and Aerie provide spell support, and Mazzy shoots things to death.
Anomen/Mazzy/HD could work if you switch Mazzy to melee. Not ideal, but it's a compromise if you really want that party.

Yoshimo is really more useful as a Bounty Hunter, and Jan would be terrible on a party that already has a T/M.

If I had my way, it would be HD/Anomen/Aerie/Mazzy/Thief-mage charname and Korgan. Lots of interesting dialogue and drama there (make sure your CHA with the Ring of Human Influence or Korgan will force Aerie to leave - if that dialogue happens in ToB though, you get a much more satisfying resolution where no fight happens) and a good mix of warrior/caster/ranged.

I personally feel you are relatively weak on thievery and warrior prowess. I would recommend fighter/thief. Swashbuckler is doable but not quite as good and more fragile (but cool).

If you go with Jan Jansen then I would go with a warrior type. Fighter, paladin, monk (requires careful playing until you get a few levels under your belt), barbarian, or a multiclass fighter will all to an extent work. Fighter/thief still works but the theif is no longer required since Jan is a good thief.

If going Yoshimo same idea as Jan Jansen though I would keep Yoshimo as a bounty hunter as that is for the best (bounty hunters are really nasty if you plan out ambushes).

Fighter/thief is very potent just make sure you have prof in one weapon that allows back stabbing (any melee thief weapon) and you can play as a standard fighter otherwise. You can use heavy armor for most situations and save stealth enabled armor for the times you want to use thief skills (open locks, traps, SETTING TRAPS).

I already beat the game using mage thief, HD, Aerie, Keldorn, Anomen and Jaheira.

I think it depends on which way you want Anomen to go. If you want him to go LG then be a paladin -- all three kits are excellent although I prefer the Cavalier. If you prefer the CN Anomen then the F/T is excellent as YH mentioned, another interesting choice is the barbarian. Personally, I'd drop Nalia and take Yoshimo so you have room for Imoen - she adds quite a bit of banter to the mix.

You already beat the game with a mage/thief so go with something else. I really enjoyed being a monk. Choose completely different characters. I thought the Viconia romance with a paladin was cool (she is an awesome cleric). Cernd gets a bad rap but once he gets the greater werewolf form he's pretty fun. Edwin is a great mage - but be sure to let him have the tome. And do at least one run with Minsc ... seriously his dialogs are great.

Minsc, Mazzy, Viconia, Edwin, Yoshimo -> Imoen, protagonist

You can also try an evil party -- Korgan, the new guy (can't remember his name), Edwin, Viconia, protagonist (cleric/thief is great). This is probably the most powerful party in the game.

Hexxat fills the thief role quite well, leaving the protagonist with plenty of viable class options. I believe Dorn is the character whose name you can't remember.
