    Hello,

I'm playing Baldur's Gate 1 now using an EasyTutu install.

I've noticed that there are certain quests that get stuck in my journal, i.e. they go into the "journal" section instead of the "quests" section, and some quests that are completed never make into the "completed quests" section.

For example, giving an angel skin ring to Fergus in the Flaming Fist headquarters in Baldur's Gate completes the quest, but his quest entry never gets marked as completed, and also with the saving Brielbara's baby quest.

Has that always been the case with the quest/journal entries, or is it because of some mods that I've installed?

    I've installed the following:

    1. G3 BG2 Fixpack
    2. G3 BG2 Tweak Pack
    3. G3 BG1 NPC Project

There is a component in the BG1 NPC project:

The BG1 NPC Sarevok's Diary Adjustments
This component installs either SixofSpades' Expanded Sarevok Diary, or the original BG1 NPC Project version which merely changes the dates to fit the BG storyline more closely. It also sets each as a book instead of a scroll. Not installing either means that you have the original diary, flagged as a scroll, with no content changes.

Could this be the cause? If not, does anyone know? Perhaps there's a mod somewhere that can remove/mark these quests as completed?

Also, I've noticed quite a few named NPCs in Baldur's Gate that I haven't managed to find a quest for, for example, Elkart in the Blade and Stars tavern, Lusselyn in the Splurging Sturgeon, Bellamy in the Three Old Kegs, etc. I know that not every named NPC is involved in a quest, some are just for flavour, so.. my question is: Is there a guide out there as to what quests are available in the city of Baldur's Gate? Preferably one with no spoilers, I don't really want to look through Dan Simpson's walkthrough yet, I've already spoiled myself on some things checking the Baldur's Gate Encyclopaedia on SP.

    Thanks in advance. :)

Report them to Macready at the EasyTutu forum. One of the problems for both conversions (BGT and Tutu) is that the journal setup is completely different from BG to BG2, so both projects had to rebuild them from scratch.

As an aside, EasyTutu already includes all relevant fixes from the BG2 Fixpack, so it's actually not recommended to be installed. That shouldn't be affecting journal entries, though.

Okay, I'll check what entries are not removed when I get back from work.

Well, I didn't know that the Fixpack wasn't supposed to be installed before doing the EasyTutu conversion, certainly something to keep in mind when i re-do a clean installation.

Some of these will also be BG1NPC. Even in the latest version, we have some code that adds Journal entries but does not remove them; original behavior was set up when there was only JOURNAL. The long term goal is to fix this minor annoyance, but so far we have been leery of using something that might accidentally remove other folks stuff.

In EasyTutu, Macready has not finished everything up yet, so Journal behaviors will change when you reach a certain point (I think entering Baldur's gate) back to the original Tutu behavior, where no journal entries had headers and some did not remove themselves. If you run into any of them, though, log them for him, please. It might help him doublecheck his work. At the very least, it will let him know that his hard (and boring, frustrating line-by-line corrections) work is going some place worthwhile, because it is an indication that someone cares about this!

This component is just the contents of the one diary you find of Sarevoks writing; it actually has no link at all to the journal entries :)

    RE: low-spoiler help

www.dudleyville.com has a big list, complete mapping, but deals with the vanilla game only. The readme files for each mod will provide the additional ones (sometimes ) and there are some solid low-spoiler help files right here at SP... check the section here on BG walkthroughs out!

cmorgan: I have posted on the Pocket Plane Group forums, with no replies yet.. perhaps I'll PM Macready in a bit. I did read on his EasyTutu page that he was working on journal entries for Chapters 5 to 7 to be updated in a later release, but it seems that EasyTutu was last updated in February this year.. and since BG1 and BG2 are such old games already, perhaps he's already abandoned the project.

Thank you for the link to dudleyville. One question though: The dudleyville fixpacks for BG1 look interesting, do you know if they will conflict with an EasyTutu installation though?

[Edit] Never mind, I should have read the EasyTutu FAQ first, it clearly states that dudleyville fixes are not included and won't be in an EasyTutu installation, even though they won't cause any compatibility issues.

    Thanks!

    No problem -
Macready pokes his head in ocasionally, so I don't think it is abandoned. But it could be awhile, as he is at university, I think...

and yup. EasyTutu asks for patched BG and BGII-Soa or ToB, sans any type of fixpack, to create the baseline independent install. Then it drops a clean, bugfixed override file into the EasyTutu install, which means anything you fixed via fixpacks of any type will be blown away. He incorporates Baldurdash directly, and takes from the BG2 Fixpack (he was also helping out updating the Tutu Fixpack, and has gleaned minor fixes from almost all community projects). He is working on revamping the spell system to use BG2 spells and get the journal entries set up. Very cool stuff :)

Check out his Degreenifier to be able to enable 3d accel and get rid of the green water, if you want, and his NPCKitpack (though several mods let you do this - I like Level 1 NPCs by Nythrun at G3). He even has a spawn randomizer.

Well, it doesn't matter anyway, I just wanted those journal / quest entries to be more organised than they are now. I may just go back to using the regular BG1 journal system for now and see how that goes.

I haven't tried 3D acceleration in both EasyTutu and BG2 yet, but if I get that green water issue then I'll install the de-greenifier. I'll check out some other mods the next time I want to do a new EasyTutu run, right now I'd like to finish it and import my character into BG2.

On a side note, I noticed that dudleyville has a low-spoiler checklist of quests that you can print out and tick off as you complete them. I'd assume that both EasyTutu and BG1 NPC Project don't accidentally remove any of the original quests?

    Thanks again!

Nope - we add 'em, and don't take 'em away - though we fix Kagain's quest, and give it an end point. EasyTutu does not change the quests, though it repairs some of the glitches that can crop up on the vanilla Tutu install.

Dudleyville checklists and hints should be fine, and match EasyTutu exactly; hopefully, following the checklist is the only way you know that something is added by BG1 NPC :).

Thanks, that's good to know, cause I've seen a large number of named NPCs that don't seem to want to have anything to do with my character.

I know that not all named characters will give quests, but thought that perhaps I'd broken something by installing the mods.
