This is going to sound stupid, but I started a new game on Baldur's Gate Tutu and my new PC is a female dwarven cleric...her sprite has short hair and a beard. Do the dwarves of both genders just share their avatar or is my game being silly again?

I know female dwarves can grow beards, but her paperdoll doesn't have one. Argh.

Yes, that's just the way it is, they didn't include separate animations for female dwarves... just imagine you're on the Discworld where female dwarves are bearded as well. :D

I thought they were bearded in 2nd edition AD&D as well. I have only the game manuals for the CRPGs to go on for 3rd edition, and no clue about fourth. I believe that an off-hand reference to a female dwarf having a beard was made in the CRPG Curse of the Azure Bonds which was based on First Edition AD&D, so I assume that was the case as well.

However, I also believe that all female dwarves have beards the same way all human men do on real world Earth (and also Abeir-Toril and Greyhawk). They grow them naturally, but can shave.

    Such laziness!

Well she wears a helm, her paperdoll is female and she has a female voice set, so...
I guess my imagination will suffice! Sorry and thanks! :)

Oi! There is the excellent 1pp mod for changing the ugly game graphics. Here is the female dwarves component: http://www.shsforums.net/files/file/761-1ppv3-female-dwarves/

You need to install 1PP main component, then avatar fixes, and then this dwarf avatar treat. After then, thieves galore component also introduces wonderful unique-hooded when unarmoured avatars for thief characters. Also, thief/bard wearing chain mail looks awesome! Try it!

Meh, females dwarves are meant to have beards. They're supposed to be indistinguishable from the males, barring what's between the legs (and you probably don't want to go looking there, regardless of gender).

Thank you! I actually stumbled across this mod while looking for new romances and banter expansion mods. What I didn't know was the other stuff I had to install first. I've been having issues with my game, it crashes the moment I click 'play' and I've *never* had that kind of problem with BG2. I figured it had something to do with the overhaul of the paperdolls/avatars.

Edit: Nope, my computer hates me. Game starts up, I click play, screen goes black then BAMF!!! back to desktop. ARGH.
Also this time I am trying to play through SOA and TOB. Never had issues with the other mods I'm using. Only these 1PP mods and the Haer'Dalis romance are new to me.

Yeah, female dwarves are just as hairy as male dwarves. Gimli in Lord of the Rings even makes a joke about this.

Yes. I know. I said it earlier and so did like three or four other people. :p My issue now is my game not working due to the mod that allows your dwarf avatar to be female.

It has been decades since I read Lord of the Rings. What was the joke again? I don't remember it.

I should see about rereading the books like I intended to back when the "new" movies were in theaters. Yes, I've been putting it off THAT long.
I just don't own a copy myself, but I'm sure the library still has a copy (wonder if it's the same one or if they replaced it since I was a kid).

I have never actually read the books. I have only seen the movies. I don't know if the joke is actually in the books or not.

This is the joke from the movies:

Thanks. I don't recall if that was in the book or not. It's been around 25 years or more since I read them. I was in primary elementary school at the time, and high school was 15 years ago.
