[IMG] Most of you know that I run a poll on the SP site pages, which has recently gone bi-weekly. Over the years it's become increasingly hard to come up with worthwhile poll ideas, because after 300+ polls we've conducted over the years, there's little left that hasn't been done in our polls yet. Or rather, little left that I can think of (not dealing with new or upcoming games).

However, the people in our chatroom have often been very helpful in this regard, and even though it usually took a lot of throwing ideas around, reshaping them, and discarding the majority which has already been done not too long ago, I got a good deal of decent to great poll ideas there.

Now I'm expanding this idea gathering to include everyone on the message boards as well. I know that inevitably the majority of ideas that people will post have already been done over the years (or even recently), so don't be too disappointed if your great idea turns out to be one that we've already used in the past. The more ideas for polls that you present here, the more food for thought I have, and the more likely it is that I'll be able to come up with a poll without major brainstorming on my part.

I often take ideas that people come up with and reshape them a bit, so be prepared for that as well, in case I do pick your poll idea for the next poll, and it's not reused in my poll word for word.

I will still be doing the fine-tuning and user evaluation of polls before they go live in our chatroom, but I'll be taking ideas from both the message boards and the chatroom now.

In case any of you aren't familiar with the site poll, check out the current poll at http://www.sorcerers.net/index.php#poll and the poll archives. And before posting any poll ideas here, please read at least the last page of the poll archives, so that you won't post any ideas which have been recently used in polls.

Here are a few basic guidelines for posting ideas for polls:

    - Check the archived poll results above to get an idea of what I'm looking for in a poll.
    - Longer is not necessarily better, neither when it comes to the poll question, nor the amount of answers to a given poll.
    - The poll question has to be easily understandable by everyone (or at least most people), not just a select few people who happen to be familiar with what you're asking.
    - The poll question has to be specific enough so that you can come up with all the possible answers to it and not leave any possible answers out.
    - The possible poll answers/choices have to fully encompass the whole spectrum of possible choices that the poll question presents. For example, you can't make a poll about a favourite monster without listing all of the monsters, which you can't do, because the absolute maximum of possible poll answers that I'd entertain (and the polling software allows) is 20. And keep in mind that any poll with more than 10 possible choices is already considered very extensive. So limit yourself to what's feasible and sensible to ask. Something that you can't give enough possible choices for is not.
    - Polls should be primarily focused on games that SP covers. Polls that deal with the site (or even message boards) are very rarely posted, because they tend to get very little response, so don't bother with polls in this direction, unless you have a really amazingly good idea that I might want to use.
    - Don't make polls about games not covered on SP (or if you do, they should be about the kind of games that the majority of people tend to be familiar with, or own). But again, it'd be a rare poll about games not covered on SP that I'd want to post.
    - Poll ideas about hardware/software related to gaming are fine.
    - General poll ideas having to do with gaming are also OK.

I think this should be enough to cover the basics, but if anyone has any more specific questions, fire away, and I'll be happy to clarify.

Whilst playing games, do you listen to the in-game music, play your own music, or have all music muted?

[IMG] We're off to a good start here, the first two are quite usable. The last one has been done not long ago, though (but it was good when it was used. :D ).

How often do you play non-human races in CRPGs?

What's the average number of hours that you spend playing computer games weekly?

Do you like joining multiplayer games, or are you more of a lone wolf?

Do you ever read game manuals?

Do you do all the side-quests available to your character?

Do you take the same, more or less time to finish a game than specified on the box?

Do you play games on hardware below minimal requirements?

What's the ideal framerate for you to enjoy a game the most? (eg. 30, 45...)

Do you ever replay a game from a certain saved point rather than restarting?

Do you read dialog.tlk files in IE/Aurora games?

Do you look forward to playing any of the new prestige classes included in NWN2?

Do you craft items or scribe scrolls?

Will you play NWN1 after the release of NWN2? (e.g. all the same, maybe a bit less, much less, not at all, I don't know etc)

Does the ability to customise the looks of your character matter to you even if it has no effect on gameplay? (e.g. Yes, No, Yes and it should have gameplay effects)

Do you miss teleportation or fast travel in games covered by SP?

Do you read in-game books, letters, inscriptions and other documents?

Do the player's own abilities matter more than the character's in multiplayer? (e.g. Yes, No, Only PvP etc)

What's your view on mini-games? (games included in a bigger game, such as swoop racing in KotOR or Arcomage in Might & Magic)

What's your opinion about randomly generated content? (e.g. It's no good, It's good only for dungeon layouts and/or road ambushes etc)

Should characters in cRPG games have to eat and drink?

What's your preferred way of multiclassing? (e.g. 50/50, few levels of other classes for benefits, more varied, none)

Is taking two levels in the Rogue class worth being two levels behind as a Wizard?

Do you combine the monk class with wisdom-based spellcasting classes for the benefit of Wisdom AC bonus?

What do you think about alignment restrictions for some of the D&D classes, such as paladin, monk or bard?

    Do you use exotic weapons?

Do you plan weapon proficiencies beforehand or do you become proficient in what good weapons you find?

Is having a good talker in your party important to you?

If your party had to face the unknown without a single character to fulfil one of the basic character roles, which would you most easily do without: the arcane caster, the divine caster, the tank, the rogue? (add archer or bard if you feel like it)

Do you enjoy in-game trials or quests related to law enforcement?

Does the ability to enhance or customise your stronghold matter to you? (e.g. enhance, customise, both, none)

Do you believe it was a good thing to remove alignment detection spells from NWN?

Whoa... enough good ideas here to last me for a year! :thumb: At a glance, most of chev's ideas haven't been done yet, however most of the ideas posted by Colthrun, dmc and Bahir have been done already (repeatedly, in some cases). Still, good ideas! :D

What do you do with your dead or obsolete computers and peripherals?
    * trash 'em! they can't hit the can quick enough
    * donate them - they're still useful to SOMEONE
    * sell 'em on eBay - some people will buy ANYTHING
    * save 'em for spare parts
    * save 'em... just because, OK?
    * fix 'em up and stick 'em on the network, for storage if nothing else

Law enforcement? You want a quest about lawyers and cops? I can see it now:

"In the Faerun criminal justice system, the races are represented by two separate yet equally important groups: the City Guard, who investigate crime; and the Venerable Priests of Blind Justice, who prosecute the offenders. These are their adventures."

[IMG] — Since yesterday i was planing (somewhat hardly, since english is NOT my language ...) a poll very unusual.

    • At first, I thought to simply put the idea here, but quickly the concept was "gathering flesh", and the "reshaping habits" of our funder were not coincident with my wishes of carefully chosen, long and precise, formulation (without speaking of smileys !)

    • The topic beeing of quasi-metaphysical type, i then thought to place it in Alley Of Dangerous Angles. But at end, according to title :

<< — Do you want LIVE in Sword Coast ? >>

... i then changed my mind and, resigned, wrote it in the simple Forum : Baldur'sGate1.
Inconveniance is evidently the more specialised frequentation (yes, you can visit that poll !)
    — ... But here, i take advantage of your knowing of all the subject, to tell you that it should perhaps be GOOD to create more ABSTRACT, nay ALIEN topics for the polls :alien:
So, thinkings will be a little out of the boring daily comparative analysis where we are all champion here. Why not ?

    Here it goes some ideas...

Do you play a character that is not the same gender as you?

Do you own any D&D core books?

I know you said you didn’t want polls about the site, but I think that this would be a good one, unless you’ve already done it.

How did you learn about SP or BoM?

About the current poll: How come Jaheira isn't one of the options as the most annoying BG II NPC's? She sure annoyed the heck out of me...

    On thread topic:

Out of all the Planescape: Torment characters, who do you think had the best (most thought out/coolest) back-story?

[List of Ps: T characters such as Vhailor, The Nameless One, Morte, Dak'kon etc]

The current poll is MALE NPCs. We've had female NPCs a couple of weeks back. And a very similar PS:T poll as you suggest has been done a few months back.
