[IMG] i was playing bg with a thief and got the cloak that charms people, the nymph cloak or something like that. anyway, i went to do that thing with Silke. garret led me to silke as normal, and i quick-saved before talking to her. on my first try she blew up me with her lightning bolt, on my second she blew up minsc. at that point i got thinking, why not charm her and make her kill herself, i tryed this but i forgot to talk to her first so i only got 90xp. i then talked to garret and biff the understudy came out and pretended to be silke. is this supposed to happen? and does he have any connection with biff the understudy from bg2?

Heh. Biff the Understudy appears in BG whenever you kill somebody before their line/quest/plot is done. I assume they put Biff in BG2 as a joke that connects back to BG.

Yeah the Haer'Dalis quest in brigde district, where he appears as Haer'Dalis understudy in the playhouse under the Five Flagons Inn.

Biff the Understudy always comes out in the Thieves' Guild quests for me - I always do the Halruuan skyship quest first, kill the mage, then do Narlen's quests. When you finish them and return to the guild, Narlen offs Biff (in the Halruuan mage's role) and sticks it to the guildmaster. The funny thing is, Biff remains in one of the corner rooms, acting like the Halruuan does before you get his components back for him.

Biff the Understudy appears in any situation where more NPCs should talk to each other but a participant of a dialog isn't present as a creature. (in normal case, this shouldn't happen!)
This can be experienced in the case mentioned by CamDawg.
Additionally, some people, e.g the players of unofficial mods use CLUAConsole to summon a creature in order to start a dialog (buggy mods often have such problem: in certain cases, the plot breaks). In this case, if you forget to summon the other participant of the dialog, Biff will appear and talk the dialog parts of the missing creature.
