[IMG] I'm getting my current party ready to rescue Imoen. Time to gather at least a second +3 weapon (Lilacor being my only one), so I decided to get the Celestial Fury. I go into the house and Sion tells me to bug off, then Dimension Doors away. As usual, I hide everyone in the first room on the left (the one with the altar) and get my PC ready to set off that 'trap'. She stealths to the stairway and the gate triggers. She runs back to the altar room to wait out the fight.

The glabrezu kills the nishuru and efreeti right off, so I am ecstatic! I figure, oh heck, let Tsujatha throw a Death Fog out there to kill off the ogre and 2 ettercaps. He does and all die except for the demon (natch). The demon had followed Tsujatha to the room and cast Dispel Magic on the party. I'm thinking, 'We're dead meat!' Wrong! The stupid glabrezu is too fat to fit through the doorway!

Lucky for me, I'd saved Lilacor, my only +3 weapon in case I ever needed it. Medina equipped it and started slashing at the demon at a safe distance. She sucked big time because she had no * in 2-handed swords, but it worked. Best of all, the demon was so busy trying to cram his way inside that he didn't cast anymore spells! Hurray!

Just wait until you go upstairs! :p

Seriously though, I find that the "trap" fight is quite easy, since they fight amongst themselves, but once you go upstairs, you've got real traps to worry about, and several high level spell casters, an assassin, and a big guy that wields a really big sword... :rolling:

A simple protection from evil spell would have kept the demon from attacking and you could have slain it without exploiting the stupid AI.

The whole funny part is that the glabrezu killed the nishru *and* efreeti. I usually have to deal with the efreeti along with the glab. PfE don't help when the other monster's casting Sunfire and Fireball on you.

@kmonster - Oh, and it's not exploiting stupid AI because a large-sized creature can't fit through a medium-sized door. Besides, PfE should not protect me from a monster I did not summon.

Does no one here have a sense of humor anymore? I can't be the only person who plays and tries out new techniques just for the hell of it. Should I even bother saying how I did the Planar Sphere by fighting 4 fights? :shake: Nah, you guys wouldn't appreciate it. :p

I like how you do it. And Protection from Evil is supposed to protect you from any person or creature that is evil reguardless on who summoned it. Mine has never worked right though.

I think its hilarious that a big, bad demon wouldn't be able to fit through a door...one would think he's find dome way to get through, like smahing, burning, or blasting it down with spells...

While it is funny indeed, it is still the fault of stupid AI. The demon should use special abilities and spells instead. Anyway. Good job kuemper!

Have other tips for particularly nasty fights?

Oh, and how did the little battle upstairs go, BTW?

Look at it this way: How do you defeat an archer/bowman? Oh, you can bombard him with spells via the Fog of War (like we all haven't done that!), but you can also force him to use melee by walking up and beating him with a melee weapon. Most archers will switch weapons and bam! Archer shaped chunky bits.

The fact that this demon couldn't reach through a doorway and claw me is what's funny. It got mad that I was poking it and mad things aren't exactly logical all the time. Besides, it wasn't able to see anyone but my PC. I've beaten it with the efreeti along with a R/C, using a similar plan. I kept my party stashed in a room and safely out of trouble. The glabrezu attacked me only with melee while the efreeti was slinging spells left and right.
